The SQ regulator allows you to ensure silent operation of the radio for reception in the absence of a useful signal.
For the first time in the Vector Comfort HP CB radio station, 2 modes of noise suppression are implemented:
- Manual (threshold, according to the radio background level), is set by the user independently. Threshold squelch allows you to provide the maximum range of squelch adjustment, but cannot distinguish between a useful signal and radio noise. It is required to set the level as precisely as possible at which the background noise of the ether is not audible, but useful signals are not suppressed. It is possible to suppress a weak signal of a useful radio.
- Automatic (according to the spectrum of the radio signal), no settings required. It can distinguish a useful signal (even a weak one) from radio noise (even a strong one) by the signal spectrum. Unlike a threshold noise suppressor, it can isolate even a weak useful signal and suppress even a strong interference, thus providing a more comfortable operation.
To set up the squelch:
- Allows you to turn the radio's power on and off, and adjust the volume level. If there is no signal in the receive mode, it is recommended to open the squelch and adjust the required volume level of the air noise.

(8) SQ squelch knob / automatic squelch
The SQUELCH regulator allows you to ensure silent operation of the Vector VT-27 Comfort HP radio for reception in the absence of a useful signal. For the first time in the CB range radio, 2 modes of noise suppression are implemented:
- Manual (threshold, according to the radio background level), is set by the user independently. Threshold squelch allows you to provide the maximum range of squelch adjustment, but cannot distinguish between a useful signal and radio noise. It is required to set the level as precisely as possible at which the background noise of the ether is not audible, but useful signals are not suppressed.
It is possible to suppress a weak signal of a useful radio station.
- Automatic (according to the spectrum of the radio signal), no settings required. It can distinguish a useful signal (even a weak one) from radio noise (even a strong one) by the signal spectrum. Unlike a noise gate, it can isolate even a weak useful signal and suppress even a strong interference, thus providing a more comfortable operation.
To set up the squelch:
- Turn the SQ/ASQ control clockwise until the air noise disappears. Try to set as precisely as possible the level at which the background noise of the air is not heard, but the useful signals are not suppressed.
- Turn the SQ/ASQ control counterclockwise (squelch open) to listen to weak signals.
- Turn the SQ/ASQ knob counterclockwise until it clicks to turn on the auto squelch.
(9) OFF/VOL knob

Scanning memory cells
1. To enable or disable the scan mode, hold down the ▲ (Up) or ▼ (Down) button for 2-3 seconds. The scanning direction (it can be changed during scanning) of memory cells (n1, n2, n3 ... or n0, n9, n8 ...) will be in accordance with the selected button. The presence of a dot after the memory number indicates that the scan mode is on.
2. Briefly pressing the ▲ (Up) or ▼ (Down) button changes the scanning direction.
3. Scanning pauses briefly on a busy channel (which has a received signal).
4. Scanning resumes automatically after 5 seconds unless you manually stop scanning or press the PTT button within 5 seconds.
5. If the signal disappears before 5 seconds have elapsed, then scanning resumes automatically after 2-3 seconds. after the loss of the received signal.
6. You can resume scanning without waiting for a 5 second pause manually by briefly pressing the ▲ (Up) or ▼ (Down) button.
7. When you press the PTT button during scanning (or pause when receiving a signal during scanning, the “Dialogue” mode is activated, which pauses (but does not turn off!) the scanning mode.
The Dialogue mode has the following features:
- scanning does not resume while you hold down the PTT button (transmitting)
- scanning does not resume while there is a received signal (you are listening, for example, to the dispatcher)
- Scanning automatically resumes (Dialogue mode ends automatically) 10-12 seconds after the PTT button is released or 10-12 seconds after the received signal is lost
- by briefly pressing the ▲ (Up) or ▼ (Down) button, you can manually end the "Dialogue" mode and resume scanning
- pressing and holding the ▲ (Up) or ▼ (Down) button for 2-3 seconds stops scanning
The Dialogue mode is useful in the following cases:
Example 1: During a scan, a signal was detected on a channel such as n2. Scanning is automatically suspended and you have heard that you are called, for example, by the dispatcher. You press the PTT (transfer) button and answer the call to the dispatcher. The "Dialogue" mode is turned on automatically. You can not be afraid that the Vector VT-27 Comfort HP radio station will continue scanning after 5 seconds during the dispatcher's response (as in scanning mode) and you will not hear a response. After the end of the dispatcher's response, you are given 10-12 seconds (instead of 2-3 seconds, as when scanning) to press the PTT (transmit) button and answer the dispatcher. If the radio exchange is over and within 10-12 seconds, neither you transmitted nor the dispatcher answered you, scanning resumes automatically. If you do not want scanning to resume after 10-12 seconds, you can shortly press the PTT button shortly before the end of the 10-12 second pause and thus extend the pause for another 10-12 seconds. Or stop scanning manually (see point 1. of the section Scanning memory cells)
Example 2: A signal was detected on a channel during a scan. Scanning is automatically paused for 5 seconds and you have heard useful information. You do not need to answer the call, but you do not want the Vector Comfort HP radio to automatically resume scanning after 5 seconds and you will not hear useful information to end. In order to pause scanning and listen to useful information to the end, press the PTT button briefly, scanning will be paused and the “Dialogue” mode will automatically turn on. In the "Dialogue" mode, you can safely listen to all useful information to the end, without fear that the scan will automatically start after 5 seconds, while receiving useful information, and you will lose useful information. Only AFTER the end of the useful signal in 10-12 seconds, scanning will resume automatically. You can resume scanning yourself at any time by briefly pressing the ▲ (Up) or ▼ (Down) button.
8. Pressing the AM/FM button in scan mode stops scanning on the current channel and switches the modulation mode. Be careful!
9. Pressing the CH9/CH19/CH15 button in scan mode stops scanning and switches the station to one of the emergency information channels. Be careful!

Use the mounting bracket and accessories supplied with the kit to mount the radio. The mounting bracket fasteners must be securely tightened to prevent unwinding from vehicle vibration while driving. The mounting bracket can be attached to the top and bottom of the radio, it can be located at any angle convenient for you (under the dashboard or on the cab roof).
Installing the main unit
Before connecting the radio to the car's electrical system, make sure that the radio is powered off and the OFF/VOL knob (9) is turned fully counterclockwise (OFF position). The radio's DC power cable The VT-27 Comfort High Power Vector (13) has a fuse holder with a fuse on the positive (+) wire. Connect the DC power cable to the car's electrical system. Despite the fact that the walkie-talkie provides protection against connecting the power supply with the wrong polarity, pay attention to the correct connection. Connect the red wire to the positive (+) terminal and the black wire to the negative (-) terminal of the car battery. Make sure that both wires on the terminals have a good contact and exclude the possibility of an accidental short circuit.
Antenna Installation
A dedicated 27 MHz mobile antenna must be used. Antenna installation must be carried out in service center or appropriate technical personnel. Pay special attention to the quality of the ground when installing the antenna. Before connecting the antenna to the radio station, it is necessary to check the performance of the antenna by obtaining a low (1.1 - 1.5) value of the standing wave ratio (SWR) using appropriate instruments. Otherwise, the output stage of the radio transmitter may be damaged. The antenna should be installed on the highest part of the vehicle body, as far as possible from various objects and sources of electrical and electromagnetic interference. The HF coaxial cable connecting the Vector Comfort HP radio station and the antenna, when laid inside the vehicle cabin, must not be in danger of being damaged. It is recommended to periodically check the correct operation of the antenna and measure the coefficient standing wave SWR Connect the RF coaxial cable from the antenna to the antenna jack (12) on the back of the radio.
Checking the operation of the radio station
Once the Vector VT-27 Comfort HP radio is connected to the vehicle's electrical system and to the antenna, you can perform the Operation Test procedure. Check the following:
(1) Make sure the power cable is connected correctly and the polarity is not reversed.
(2) Make sure the RF coaxial cable (from the antenna) is connected to the radio and the antenna itself is properly tuned (Maximum allowable SWR is 2.0).
(3) Connect the microphone to the connector (10) on the front of the radio.
(4) Turn the SQ knob (8) clockwise to cancel the air noise.
(5) Power on the Vector 27 Comfort HP radio by turning the OFF/VOL knob (9) and adjust the volume level. Set the desired channel using the channel selection buttons (6 and 7).

You can not be afraid that the Vector VT-27 Comfort HP radio station will continue scanning after 5 seconds during the dispatcher's answer (as in scanning mode) and you will not hear the answer. After the dispatcher's answer is finished, you are given 10-12 seconds , as in scanning) to press the PTT (transmit) button and answer the dispatcher.
You don't need to answer the call, but you don't want the Vector Comfort HP radio to automatically resume scanning after 5 seconds and you won't hear the useful information until the end. In order to pause scanning and listen to useful information to the end, press the PTT button briefly, scanning will be paused and the “Dialogue” mode will automatically turn on. In the "Dialogue" mode, you can safely listen to all useful information to the end, without fear that the scan will automatically start after 5 seconds, while receiving useful information, and you will lose useful information Only AFTER the end of the useful signal, scanning will resume automatically after 10-12 seconds .
Be careful!

The Vector VT-27 Comfort HP radio should be located in an easily accessible location, but not interfere with vehicle control.
Before connecting the radio to the car's electrical system, make sure the radio is powered off and the OFF/VOL knob (9) is turned all the way counterclockwise (OFF position). The radio's DC power cable The VT-27 Comfort High Power Vector (13) has a fuse holder with a fuse on the positive (+) wire. Connect the DC power cable to the car's electrical system Although the radio is protected against reversed power connection, pay attention to the correct connection.
Antenna installation must be carried out by a service center or by appropriate technical personnel. Pay special attention to the quality of the ground when installing the antenna. Before connecting the antenna to the radio station, it is necessary to check the performance of the antenna by obtaining a low (1.1 - 1.5) value of the standing wave ratio (SWR) using appropriate instruments. Otherwise, the radio's transmitter output stage may be damaged. The antenna should be installed on the highest part of the vehicle body, as far as possible from various objects and sources of electrical and electromagnetic interference. The RF coaxial cable connecting the Vector Comfort HP radio and the antenna must not be damaged when laid inside the cab of the vehicle. It is recommended to periodically check the correct operation of the antenna and measure the standing wave ratio of the SWR. Connect the RF coaxial cable from the antenna to the antenna jack (12) on the back of the radio.

Many people ask which station you can buy and use right away without making any modifications. Today I will answer this question. The Vector VT-27 Comfort station came to my table, which, according to the manufacturer’s idea, corresponds to the ideology “All you need and nothing more for a reasonable price.” The device is quite interesting and it certainly deserves attention.
It is quite difficult to find a radio station in our market that does not need modifications after it has been released from the factory. Muted modulation, popping and hiccupping noise suppressors, almost all of these symptoms are inherent in modern radio stations made in China and even in Korea. However, among all this abundance there are pleasant exceptions. This review is dedicated to car radio Vector VT-27 Comfort.
Appearance
The radio is delivered in a white cardboard box.
Printing is almost non-existent. We saved on packaging design, and who needs it if we are interested in the content? The station comes standard. The station itself, headset, mounting kit and instructions.
The radio station itself is made in the form of a monoblock.
Despite the external asceticism, the dimensions of the case can be called large for this class of radio stations.
The housing covers are bolted to the chassis together and through, top and bottom. A total of 6 screws were used. 4 on the sides and 2 on the back.
This design is less prone to resonances, in contrast to the solution in which the covers are attached separately, each, as is done, in almost all megajets.
The front panel is made of black plastic, pleasant to the touch.
The design of the front panel is very simple, but not without its style. Unlike the clumsy one, the vector looks nicer, although there are much fewer controls and indications here.
The vector has a unique typeface. Bulky, not very heavy.
Lies comfortably in the hand. The headset cord is long, but stiff. In the cold, it stiffens and it becomes inconvenient to use the station.
The headset connector is a standard 4-pin.
At the back there is a connector for connecting an antenna, an external speaker and a power cord. There is no quick disconnect connector on the cord.
Functions
Despite the ascetic design and truncated, at first glance, functionality, this is a full-fledged radio station that has everything you need to work on the air and even some functions that are unique to this radio station.
- Headset connector.
- Radio on/off knob and volume control.
- AM/FM modulation switch button. The second function of this button is to switch to the mode of working with memory channels, ProMem. To switch to the mode of working with memory channels, press and hold for 3 seconds. At least 1 channel must be recorded in memory, otherwise the station will give an error and the letters Er will appear on the display.
- Button for quick switching to 9/19 emergency channels and channel 15. Moreover, the modulation switches along with the channels (9/19 FM and 15 AM). The second function of this button is to switch frequency grids. To switch between grids, you need to hold down the CH9/19/15 button for two seconds. After the letter of the grid appears on the display, without releasing the button, switch to the desired grid using the up (6) and down (7) channel switching keys. To confirm the selection, simply release the CH9/19/15 button.
- Squelch control knob. In the extreme left position, with a click, the automatic noise suppressor is turned on. The rest of the adjustment space is used to adjust the squelch.
- Channel up button.
- Channel down button.
- Display.
Working with memory channels
To work with memory channels, they must be programmed. To record a channel in memory, you must select a channel, grid, modulation, zeros / fives, all this is recorded in memory. You can enter the programming mode as follows, simultaneously hold down the AM / FM button (3) and the channel up button (6). The display will show the letter n and the number of the memory location. Use the up (6) and down (7) channel keys to select the desired memory location and confirm your selection by long pressing and holding the AM/FM button (3). A dot will light up next to the letter n, which will mean that this channel is recorded in the selected cell. The display will cycle through the channel number, grid and memory flashing. To exit the programming mode, briefly press the PTT.
To delete a channel from a memory cell, you need to enter the programming mode, select the memory cell from which you want to delete the channel. Press and hold the CH9/19/15 button until the dot disappears next to the letter n and the number, which means that the cell is empty and no longer used.
Memory Channel Scan
Scanning is only available in memory channel mode. Only recorded memory channels are scanned. To scan, you must switch to the memory channel mode and press and hold the channel button up or down. A dot next to the channel number will indicate that the channel scan mode is on. The scanning direction is changed by short pressing the up and down channel keys. Scanning pauses briefly on a busy channel where a useful signal was detected and resumes automatically after 5 seconds. If the signal is lost before 5 seconds have elapsed, the scan will also resume.
If you press the PTT during scanning, the so-called "Dialogue" mode is activated. In other words, scanning does not resume as long as you keep the PTT pressed or while there is a received signal (squelch open). Scanning automatically resumes 10 seconds after you release the PTT or after a useful signal disappears from the air (the squelch is closed).
To stop scanning, press and hold the channel up or down button.
Frequency standards
The station can operate in different frequency standards. To switch them, you need to turn off the radio station, hold down and hold the channel switch button up (6) and turn on the station.
The display will show and the current frequency standard will flash.

Having selected the required standard, press and hold the channel switch button down until the station switches to normal operation.
Inside
The station is made on a green textolite board. Installation is neat. Nothing in particular to complain about. Everything looks very neat and cultured. Despite the low price, the station is made quite high quality.
Outcome
The developers managed to create a great product at a good price. Of course, such a station is not suitable for everyone, but it has its own strengths and manners for professional use. A good receiver, decently working squelch, legible modulation, you get it all out of the box. Management deserves special attention. It is designed in such a way that it is very difficult to accidentally knock down the settings during operation. Of course, you need to get used to it, but having mastered it completely, you will get a fairly powerful tool for working on the air. Despite the external asceticism, this radio station has everything you need to work. Of course, Vector will suit those who are clearly aware of the tasks of radio communication that need to be solved with the help of this tool, but the capabilities and professional ideology underlying this radio station certainly deserve attention.
And so, I’ll tell you how I am about the wonderful Vector VT-27 Comfort HP radio station. One of the few radio stations civilian range which does not require emergency refinement out of the box. The same can't be said about most MegaJet radios. But each person has his own preferences and his own delusions. So, for example, after a simple revision with a file, soldering iron and hands, MegaJet turns into an excellent radio station ready for work and defense! But today we will talk about the Vector VT-27 Comfort HP radio station.
This radio has several characteristics that I was interested in:
- ascetic design,
- reliable fastening of the tangent,
- extended frequency range from 10 to 11 meters,
- bright indication of the channel number,
- increased power,
- work in channel mode,
- channel change button.
There are, of course, downsides.
- Very light tangent
- inconvenient PTT button,
- hard wire headset,
- flashing on emergency channels,
- frequency grid shift.
Pros of the radio station
Now everything is in order. I'll start with an ascetic design. Based on the basic style of working with radio stations on the CB band, then the control of the radio station consists only in choosing the channel number and that's it. The taxi service, which has been officially banned from using civil radio stations, uses one channel to communicate with the dispatcher. Truckers also work in one channel and do not pay attention to the fact that there are 39 more channels on the CB band. Users of various ARCs also use one channel, and when traveling outside the city, they switch to the trucker channel. It turns out that all control of the radio station consists only in turning on and adjusting the volume. Of the necessary to use the radio station, you need channel switching buttons, volume and possibly noise reduction. The radio station's PTT is also not overloaded with functionality, there is a PTT button and a microphone, and more is not required.
The tangent is fastened with a four-pin connector with screw fixation. This is not a quick-release connection that many for some reason dream of, a good strong connection that is not subject to accidental popping and loosening. When using a radio station in a car, there is a high possibility of accidental falling out and disconnection of the PTT. Therefore, I would prefer a strong and reliable connection for the wire from the PTT. A quick disconnect is suitable if you need to use the radio as a base.
The Vector VT-27 Comfort HP has 900 channels. Nice huh? And why are there so many channels? The radio station supports two frequency grids. EU is work in fives and rU is work in zeros. Ten grids from A to J. 45 channels each (with holes). As a result, we have 900 channels. Although officially, according to the documents, the range of overlapped frequencies is 26.965–27.855 MHz. To open the station for 900 channels, you should take up the soldering iron.
I also like the bright indication of the channel number using seven-segment LED indicators. Unlike other panels, they do not have a problem with a bad viewing angle. Whatever one may say, the seven-segmenter is visible.
The Vector VT-27 Comfort HP has the ability to double the power output. From the factory, it runs at 10 watts, which is more than double the power rating. And after a little refinement, its power increases to 20 watts in FM and up to 16 watts in AM. The enlarged radiator allows you to work at higher capacities without thinking about cooling problems.
In this version of the radio station, the ability to work in the channel mode is implemented. Certain channels are pre-registered and the radio switches to channel mode. This is quite handy when you need to work with multiple channels rather than jumping around the 40 channels of an existing frequency grid. The frequency and modulation are stored in the channel, so almost all further manipulations will consist only in switching between the programmed channels. Ten channels can be programmed. It seems to be not so much, but for household work it should be enough.
The button for quickly changing channels is very pleased. It is programmed not only to change the channel number, but also to change the modulation characteristic of the selected channel. So, for example, on channels 9 and 19, frequency modulation is automatically set, and on channel 15, amplitude modulation. You should not think about the fact that you also need to change the modulation, I like automatism.
Cons of the radio station
One of the downsides of this radio is that the PTT is not heavy enough. In most other PTTs, a large amount of electronics and a weighting material are placed inside, which gives it weight. And here inside is a small handkerchief with a button and a microphone. Therefore, there is discomfort in the case when you sort out the tangents of different radio stations.
The PTT button on the Vector VT-27 Comfort HP radio has an awkward configuration. Previously, this option for the implementation of the button was convenient for me, but I began to often use PTTs from Alinco and Yaesu, and they use a different type of rocker for the PTT button. Now, for me, the PTT buttons have become more familiar as on these radio stations. In general, is a subjective parameter.
The wire going to the PTT is very hard compared to the same Alinco. In the cold, it becomes very stiff and constantly strives to spring the tangent.
Another slightly annoying factor is the blinking of the channel indicator, in quick access mode. When you press the button to quickly switch to emergency channels, the radio indicates this by blinking the indicator. In some ways this is the right decision, but in the car (when the radio is installed somewhere on the side or under the seat) it will not even be noticeable.
The next disadvantage of the Vector is that its frequency grid is shifted up by one point. And the generally accepted grid C turned into grid D. But this is a single problem that the user will encounter at the setup stage, and not during active operation. Actually, when setting up, I recommend everyone to print out the frequency table wired into the radio station with which you work. The fact is that such a grid shift is typical not only for the Vector VT-27, but also for MegaJet, Alan and others.
Results
Very good station, practically does not require improvement. With a soldering iron, you will have to climb in three cases.
A soldering iron is needed in order to fix a grid of 900 channels.
A soldering iron is also needed to double the transmission power.
Well, a soldering iron may be required to improve the modulation. Although it works quite well without the intervention of a soldering iron.
