Hello, dear readers of the blog site. I don't know if you have experienced the same problem double or triple actuation of the mouse button in one click, but definitely - such a problem exists and it is often found among users, as evidenced by numerous entries on the forums. What can I say, I myself have repeatedly witnessed a situation where with one click of the left button 2-4 windows were opened at once, instead of one, this was terribly annoying and interfered with work. And then I wondered how to fix the mouse without having special tools.
And that's what I managed to find out, on different sites they write that it is necessary to solder the mikrik (the switch is a button on the board that makes a click) from some non-working mouse, or put paper / tape under the key and then, they say, the problem will go away. However, there is a way in which the need for a soldering iron and putting something in is eliminated, and the time to repair the mouse will take you no more than 10 minutes. The difficulty is that to implement this method, you will have to disassemble the mouse, but the same thing will need to be done with other methods.
The case of any computer mouse is fastened with screws, some of them may be in such places that they can simply not be found during a cursory examination. Usually, the screws are on the bottom, they fasten the bottom of the mouse and the rest of its parts. Carefully unscrew all the screws visible to the eye, then tug on the case - if the bottom is still holding something, then you need to find hidden screws, I suggest looking for them, for example, under stickers or overlays. Be sure to disconnect the mouse from the port before you start disassembling it, in order to avoid any trouble.
There are different types of computer mice - gaming, office (regular), wireless, and so on, but their internal structure is very similar. Regardless of how many buttons the mouse has, each of them will have its own mic. Remarkably, these mics are identical, which allows them to be replaced in the event of a breakdown. Even under the scroll wheel there is its own switch.
The switch itself consists of two parts, the lower part (base) is attached to the PCB with contact pins using soldering, the upper part is the switch housing that covers the inside. Inside the switch is a thin copper plate of a peculiar shape, when it bends under the action of force - you can hear a click, the same "click" that all mouse buttons usually make. The problem is in the plate., but to get to it you will need to remove the switch housing.
It is best to do this with a thin screwdriver or something else that is convenient for you to work with. Carefully pry off the end of the mikrik case, then do it around the entire perimeter of the switch. Be careful, as a result of the opening, a small plastic button may fall out (it is red in the image), this is the part through which the force from your finger pressing to the copper plate is transmitted. The plate rests on supports, which do not allow her to "walk" within the body. However, one of the ends of the plate is not rigidly fixed, so in order to release the plate, you will have to move it a little to the side.
Great, now. The fact is that over time, the metal sags (“tired”), and in a certain position the plate falls so close to the bottom contact that in a split second it makes several circuits, as a result of which we can observe multiple windows opening in Windows with one click, for example. It is necessary to turn the plate over, slightly bend the “tail” up with a screwdriver or other object, it is important not to overdo it, otherwise the plate can be broken (copper is very thin).
Now you need to put the plate on the mounts, it is better to start the installation with the movable side of the plate. I don’t argue, it’s not so easy to do, because the detail is very small, but with a certain skill, everything should work out. But putting the plate back in place is only half the battle, it is also necessary to install the body of the mikrik back, since it is fastened with latches. Before installing the switch housing in place, insert a white (or any other color) button into it from the inside so that its narrow part looks up, after which you can snap the housing back.
Well, that's all, now it remains only to assemble the mouse back by tightening the screws at the junctions. If you did everything right, then you don’t have to take the mouse in for repair or run to the store for a new one. And if suddenly the problems with the mouse recur, now you know what to do. Even in such a simple way click hardness can be adjusted by simply bending the plate to the desired distance. Personally, I like it when the mouse button press is crisp and hard, accompanied by a loud click.
This procedure can be repeated as many times as you like, until the lower part of the mikrik falls apart, after all, plastic cannot be called a material resistant to mechanical damage. Also, as an option, you can completely solder the mikrik, for example, from an old but working mouse. But firstly, it will take more time, and secondly, not everyone may have a soldering iron at hand along with solder. In addition, you can try to order such switches from the Internet, and in which case, rearrange the copper plates from there, it will come out much cheaper than buying even the simplest mouse. Thank you.
Despite the fact that most computer manipulators or mice are a universal type of device, sometimes quite serious problems can be observed with them. One of the most common is the situation when the left mouse button does not work or does not work as expected (every other time, calls the context menu, etc.). Why this happens, and how to fix the situation, we will consider in as much detail as possible.
The left mouse button does not work: what is the reason?
Speaking about what can cause this phenomenon, first of all, it should be noted problems with the device itself. Indeed, various kinds of mechanical damage can provoke situations where the left mouse button works every other time. However, the root cause, oddly enough, this may not always be the case.
Quite often, problems can be in device drivers. True, for the most part this applies to game controllers, for which you need to install quite specific control software. But this can also happen with standard devices.
Equally common are problems with incorrect connection or even situations where the blocking of the mouse operation is done at the program level. For most of these cases, a more or less suitable solution for restoring the device's performance can be found. Let's try to consider some of them. We are not talking about viruses, since such cases are very rare, although their impact is not excluded.
Changing the connection of the manipulator
So, we proceed from the fact that the left mouse button does not work. What to do to fix the problem?
To get started, try simply restarting your computer or reconnecting the mouse, if it is a USB or wireless type, to a different port. For PS2 standard devices, restarting should be done only when the power is off, and for USB modifications of manipulators, this can be done, as they say, right on the go. But this is only the simplest possible, and usually the problem is hidden much deeper.
Setting the power saver and power plan
Let's see what can be done if the left mouse button does not work or works in the wrong mode (say, for a double click, you need to make more than two clicks, or there is no reaction to pressing the button at all).
The proposed solution applies only to USB devices and is not applicable to conventional manipulators:
- To begin with, in order not to take any action with the drivers yet, you need to call the "Device Manager" (devmgmt.msc in the "Run" menu).
- Find all Generic USB Hub devices and USB Root Hubs there (there may be more than one).
- For each, view the properties section with a switch to the power management tab.
- If there is a checkmark next to the option to disable the device to save energy, it must be unchecked, then save the installed options and, to be sure, restart the system.
Sometimes it also happens that the left mouse button does not work due to incorrectly set parameters in the current power scheme, which is more typical for laptops.
In this situation it is necessary:
- go to the appropriate settings using the "Control Panel" or the RMB menu on the battery icon;
- open additional options;
- in the options for temporarily disabling USB ports, set a ban.
Disabling Touchpad Delay on a Laptop
On laptops, this problem is very often due to the fact that the operation of the mouse button (not necessarily the left one) is affected by the included touchpad. It should be disabled, either by using keyboard shortcuts based on the Fn button, or directly in the settings of the manipulator, which are located in the corresponding section of the "Control Panel".
A similar procedure can be performed in the "Device Manager" by selecting disable for the touchpad.
What if the left mouse button works like the right one?
If the problem is that the left button for some reason calls context menus, and does not work on selection or input operations, then, most likely, the mouse settings regarding changing buttons have been somehow changed.
To fix the problem, use the "Control Panel" and the mouse settings section. Here you need to uncheck the button destination exchange, if it is checked there.
What else could there be?
Just in case, see if you have any additional software for mouse control or button remapping installed. It can also cause such situations to arise.
Finally, if nothing at all helps, in the "Device Manager" simply remove the mouse from the list, and then reboot the system. It may very well be that when Windows restarts, it installs the necessary drivers again, and the problem will disappear by itself.
But, if nothing changes after that, check the manipulator for operability on another PC, and if necessary, take it in for repair or buy a new one. Thankfully, these devices are now inexpensive.
Another operating room glitch Windows systems 10 is the suddenly non-working Start button. Just imagine that you are working, working, and then bam - and such a surprise popped up. The start stopped working due to the next Windows 10 updates, either because you messed up something in the registry, or it was not you who messed up in the registry, but some program. What to do in this case? I have sketched out several ways to solve this problem and get the Start menu working.
The first way I have for lovers of radical measures. Namely, you can do it, follow the link and read how it can be done.
The second method helps in almost all cases.
Repairing the Start Menu with PowerShell
In order not to paint for a long time what's what, I'll say that PowerShell is such a utility similar to the command line, only even more abruptly. How can we start it if this very “Start” does not work for us. You can also do this in several ways.
First, you can press the key combination Win + R and in the window that opens, enter powershell
Secondly, you can do this through the task manager. Press the key combination Alt + Ctrl + Del and go to the task manager. We will open a window in which we click on "File - Run new task"
In the window that opens, put a bird in front of the item "Create a task with admin rights" and enter the powershell command.
We have the following window.
Copy the following set of commands into it:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach (Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”)
Click on enter. The work of the “spell” you entered has begun, in a few minutes you will see errors highlighted in red in the window. After that, you can click on the "Start" and check its performance.
The next way to restore the Start button is to restart File Explorer
To do this, go to the task manager already known to us and restart the explorer in the "Processes" tab. We click on the corresponding process with the right button and, from the drop-down menu, select the item "Restart".
We conjure over the registry editor
If nothing helps, then we turn to the registry. To do this, press the key combination already known to us Win + R and in the window that opens, write the command regedit. Click "OK".
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
On the right side of the window, look at the options. We are looking for EnableXAMLStartMenu , if it is not there, then we create it. To do this, click on an empty space and select "New - DWORD (32-bit) Value"
Specify the value 0 for the newly created parameter.
If you had this parameter, but it had a different value, then you need to change it to 0.
Now it remains only to restart the computer and check if the start button works.
I hope you have fixed your breakdown and I will be glad if you write in the comments about the work done, and also indicate in what other ways you solved this problem.

Upgrading to Windows 10 has not been without consequences for many. As often happens, Microsoft rolled out a "crooked" update, so on some computers, laptops and netbooks it brought not so much joy as problems. And one of these is the refusal of the Start menu to work correctly. Sometimes rebooting the system helps, and in some cases even it does not help. What to do if the Start menu does not work in Windows 10?
We offer you to analyze all the ways to solve this problem in the course of this article. By the way, judging by the latest news, from time to time other elements built into the freshly baked system refuse to work. With the help of our tips, you can overcome them too.
What to do if the Start menu does not work in Windows 10
The first and easiest is to restart Explorer, also known as Explorer.exe. But if rebooting the system does not help, then it will not bring any benefit either. In the event that after restarting the computer, Start starts working correctly again, you can use this method all the time.You probably know the combination that turns on the Task Manager. Yes, yes, these are the very famous three buttons CTRL+Alt+Del. What do we have to do:
If the miracle did not happen, and it still does not function, then the problem is something else and a different solution must be sought. Fortunately, our article does not end there.
PowerShell as a way to get Start working again
To begin with, I would like to warn you that this method not only helps to solve the problem, but can also cause some problems with installed applications from the Windows 10 store. On the other hand, you can always reinstall them - this solves any problems that have arisen with downloaded applications.Let's see what needs to be done:
There are two options to start PowerShell - to climb into the jungle of the operating system through a huge number of folders or use the "Run" window. We suggest you use the second option - it is faster, simpler and more convenient.
- Launch the "Run" window with the key combination Win + R;
- Enter "Powershell.exe" in the line, then click "OK";
- A window similar to the Command Prompt is launched, only blue;
- Copy the following combination and paste it into the program: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach (Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”) ;
- Press "Enter" to execute it;
- After a while, you should check if the Start menu is working.
We return the performance of Start using the Registry
If nothing like this has happened yet, you should not despair - the last way remains.
Security and maintenance - a built-in troubleshooter
Create a new user
Often the problem is in the Russian-language username, so you should create a new one:
When the computer boots up, select the newly created user and check the operation of the start menu. One of these ways should bring him back to life anyway.
After updating to a new version of the operating system, some users are faced with an unpleasant situation - the Start button does not work in Windows 10. But you can get rid of this problem on your own.
Why is the start button not working?
The main reason why the Start button does not work is resetting the functional settings in the OS registry editor. Administrator settings may also be reset. But such a problem occurs due to the fault of the user, and not due to flaws in the OS (it is useful to read "").
Recovery
Even if you are not a professional user, you can still restore the Start menu on your own.
Restart Explorer
An easy way to fix this issue is to restart Explorer.

Conclusion
There are several ways to restore the Start button after a Windows update. If none of them helped, restore the system through the Settings application, using a bootable USB flash drive or disk.
Windows 10 is considered one of the best operating systems in the Microsoft lineup. Since its inception, users have noted some bugs and problems, most of which have now been finally resolved. Unfortunately, the problems of the "dozens" continue to be relevant, and a search for solutions is constantly needed.
One of these malfunctions is a problem with the operation of the Windows 10 Start button. This bug is often accompanied by the inability to open other system elements (for example, the All Settings window). The start button may not work after the update. Also, a problem with the menu and button may occur after installing Windows 10 from scratch.
We will try to describe all the options why this happens, and ways to resolve the situation, the effectiveness of which has already been proven by Windows 10 users.
Among the methods for solving the problem with the work of the Start menu, a banal restart of the explorer.exe process on a personal computer with Windows 10 stands out. To do this, press the key combination CTRL + ALT + DELETE to call the Task Manager. Another way to get into Task Manager is to press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC. Click here for more details. If there is no such window, just go to the "Processes" tab.
Among all processes, we are looking for "Explorer". In the English version of Windows 10, this process appears as Windows Explorer. Right-click on this process to call the context menu and click on "Restart".
This method is ineffective, but if there was no particular problem with the operation of the Windows 10 Start button before, this method may work. More serious problems will require more serious measures.
Resuming the Start Menu Using PowerShell
Before you start working with PowerShell, you should keep in mind that this method in most cases perfectly solves problems with the Start menu. However, this method may entail changes in the system and, therefore, other troubles may arise. In particular, we are talking about violations in the operation of some applications downloaded from the Dozens store. So, first of all, we try the method described in the previous paragraph, and proceed to manipulations with PowerShell if the actions did not bring results.
Because the Start button is disabled, the PowerShell function can only be run from the Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0 folder. In this folder we are looking for, and then we click on the powershell.exe file with the right mouse button to run it as administrator,
The PowerShell file can be run as an administrator with another method. You need to right-click on "Start". A menu will open where you need to click "Command Prompt (Administrator)". In the field we type powershell. In the future, all the necessary combinations are entered here. When working with the "command line", a separate window will not open.
In the PowerShell window, enter the following command:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach (Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml")
You don't have to do it manually, just copy and paste. After the command is completed, we try to open the Start menu. If the opening did not follow, we move on.
Working with the Windows 10 Registry Editor
There are several other ways to get the Start menu up and running. Among these additional methods, a good option would be to do certain manipulations with the registry editor.
To enter the editor window, press Win + R and in the line that appears, enter the regedit command. We need a section HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ Advanced.
Right-click anywhere in the field on the right. Select "New", then DWORD (32). The new parameter must be named like this: EnableXAMLStartMenu. Now let's set the desired parameter value. This is done with a double click. We assign the value 0 to the parameter.
We solve the problem by creating a new user
If the problem persists, perhaps creating a new user will be the way out. Press "Win" + R. In the search field, enter Control to enter the control panel, in which we create a new user.
You can also create a new user through the "command line". Press "Win" + R, in the field we enter net user User_name / add .
As a rule, for a new user, the start menu and all settings work without problems. It remains only to transfer all the files to a new account.
What to do if none of the options worked
It happens that nothing helps. Then it remains to use Windows recovery mode. This means a return to the original state. But usually a simple rollback of updates works. In the "Control Panel" select "Programs and Features". Here we view updates and delete the latest.
Rolling back updates is good because after re-updating, there are no problems opening the Start menu.
A significant disadvantage is the time that will have to be spent waiting for the download of the previous version of Windows 10. Any of the above methods can help. But you need to start trying exactly in the order in which we arranged them. So the likelihood of aggravating the problem with the Start button is minimized.
Operating updates will come from the official Microsoft website. Microsoft systems improve computer performance, make it safer and add new functionality to the OS. However, along with these updates come some problems. For example, after the next update, some of the users see that the Start button does not work for them in Windows 10.
At the same time, it simply does not respond to a mouse click on its icon, but it also does not work after pressing the Win button on the keyboard (the key with the Windows logo). Often, along with such a problem, the system parameters, as well as its other elements, do not open. In the article we will figure out how to get out of this situation and return the system to working capacity. If you do not want similar difficulties to be repeated in the future, you can completely.
To deal with the constantly idle Start menu in 2016, Microsoft even created a special application that was supposed to fix the problem automatically.
This method is the easiest, use it first, if after rebooting the system, the start still does not work, go to the next options. Explorer.exe is a graphical shell for Windows. She is responsible for everything that we see, these are windows with explorer, the taskbar, the system tray and even widgets. Like all other programs, this application may malfunction, for example, due to an elementary conflict with data cells in RAM. So, in order to bring the Start menu back to life, first of all, let's try to restart this process.
How to fix
Follow our instructions:
- We launch the task manager. You can open it using the Ctrl + Shift + Esc key combination or through the context menu of our taskbar. To do this, click on its empty space with the right mouse button and select the item indicated in the screenshot.
- If you are running the tool for the first time, you will need to deploy it. To do this, click on the "Details" button. We marked it with a red box.
- We go to the tab with the name: “Processes” we find the “Explorer” process there (sometimes it can be called Explorer) and using the context menu launched by right-clicking on the process name, select the “Restart” item.
The entire Windows 10 GUI will disappear for a moment and then reappear. If this option did not solve your problem, feel free to move on to the next method, it will be more effective.
We solve the problem using the system registry
This method is more effective than the previous one, it involves changing the value of the system registry key. If there is no such key, we will create it. Let's look at how to do it right.
- Initially, you need to run a standard Windows 10 utility called regedit. In order to do this, press the Win + R combination and enter the word regedit in the window that appears.
- In the window that opens, in its left part there is a registry directory tree. We pass along the path indicated in the screenshot. In the right part of the program, select the EnableXAMLStartMenu key, and if it is not there, create it. To do this, click on the empty space on the right side of regedit with the right mouse button on the item "Create" - "DWORD Value (32 bits)".
- Now we rename the new parameter to EnableXAMLStartMenu and, having opened it with a double click, set the value to "0".
- In order for the changes to take effect, you need to restart the Windows graphical interface. We described this in the first method.
Cyrillic username fix
Sometimes the Start menu stopped working after creating a new Windows user with a name written in Russian. In order to correct this situation, you need to use the Computer Management utility and correct the name. Let's see how it's done.
- Initially, we open computer management through Windows search. To do this, click on the magnifying glass icon on the taskbar and enter a query in the search box. When the result appears, click on it.
- Next, on the left side of the window, open the " Utilities" section, go to "Local Users and Groups" and click on the "Users" folder. In the right part of the window we find the name that needs to be renamed and click on its name with the right mouse button. There will be an item "Rename", we need it.
Ready. The "Computer Management can be closed" tool, the changes will be applied as soon as you restart the system. If this method does not give the desired result, try creating another user and check the operation of the Start menu on it.
To do this, we do the following:
- We launch the "Run" utility for this we use two simultaneously pressed Win + R keys. In the window that appears, enter the word control and press Enter.
- After opening the control panel, go to the "User Accounts" menu.
- Click on the inscription indicated in the screenshot.
- Next, select "Manage another account".
- And add a new user.
- You can get to the same menu in another way. Open the Windows 10 notification shade and click on the "All Settings" tile.
- Scroll down the window that opens a little and select the "Accounts" tile.
- On the left side of the window, select the "Family and other users" subsection, and on the right, click on "Add a user to this computer."
- Here you can create another Windows 10 user, if you do not want to link his account to a Microsoft account, click on the item indicated in the screenshot, and in the menu that opens, select "Add user without a Microsoft account".
Restart your computer or simply end the current session and select the user you created. If the launch starts to open, then the problem is in the account.
Using automatic maintenance mode in Windows 10
Windows 10 has its own debugging tool, which, in theory, should fix various problems for the user. Sometimes this function solves the issue of the non-working Start button, let's look at how to use it.
- In the Windows 10 search bar (which starts with a magnifying glass icon), we write the words: “This PC”. We click on the item indicated in the screenshot with the right mouse button and select "Properties".
- In the window that opens, click on the inscription: “Security and Maintenance Center” (located in the lower left corner).
- Expand the "Maintenance" section.
- Using the key indicated in the screenshot, we start automatic maintenance of the system.
- Service has begun, it will take time. The less you use your computer during this period, the faster the process will complete. At the end of the PC scan, all problems found on it will be corrected if possible. You can disable the service if you wish.
Attention! For a more complete, quick and correct check, we recommend that you close all running programs and save the data. The program works only on behalf of the administrator.
Using PowerShell to Fix the Start Menu
Here is another option that will help get the Start menu working. We take the following steps:
- First you need to start PowerShell itself. To do this, use the built-in search tool. Click on the magnifying glass icon on the left side of the taskbar and enter the PowerShell command in the search field. When the result we need appears (indicated by the number 3 in the screenshot), right-click on it with our manipulator and select the “Run as administrator” section.
Sometimes the program cannot be found through the search. To get around the difficulty, go to Windows Explorer along the path indicated in the screenshot and run powershell.exe. You need to run the file as an administrator. To do this, right-click on its name and select the desired item.
You can also call Windows PowerShell through the command line, you must run it as an administrator. After cmd.exe opens, type powershell into the black box and press Enter.
Once the program is running, paste the following entry into it:
Get-appxpackage -all *shellexperience* -packagetype bundle |% (add-appxpackage -register -disabledevelopmentmode ($_.installlocation + “\appxmetadata\appxbundlemanifest.xml”))
The command will take a couple of seconds to complete. Now restart your computer and check if the start has started working. If not, move on to the next method.
Attention! Using this method may break the functionality of the Windows Store. Therefore, it should only be used as a last resort.
Windows 10 Start Menu Repair Tool
As we said, the people at Microsoft are aware of the startup problem. That is why they created a miniature program with which we will work. Follow our instructions:
- Initially, let's download the program from the button below. The download is from the official Microsoft website.
- Run the application as an administrator (no installation required) and click on the "Advanced" line.
- Make sure that the box next to "Automatically apply corrections" is checked and click the "Next" button.
- The program is running, the system is checked for problems with the Start menu.
- As you can see, no problems were found. If you have them, corrections will be made automatically. If you click on the item " View additional information", You can understand by what criteria the tool from Microsoft is looking for problems.
The parameters that the program checks:
- incorrectly installed important applications;
- problems in the system registry;
- the integrity of the tile database;
- application manifests.
The report that the utility produces can be printed, and each item in the window shows a tooltip explaining its purpose. The same items are also elements of the table of contents, if you click on one of them, we will get to the desired part of the help section.
What to do if the problem is not solved?
We have provided many solutions in case the Windows 10 start button stopped working, for example, after an update, and usually they are enough for any situations. But even if none of them helped you, you should not be upset. In any Windows OS, and in the "Ten", in particular, there is a checkpoint system, thanks to which you can roll Windows back to the state in which the system was at the time the point was created.
It is important to create checkpoints before any major operation with the OS, and especially before updating, which often leads to problems. In any case, if you still have questions, ask us in the comments, and we will try to answer in as much detail as possible and help solve the problem.

Another glitch of the Windows 10 operating system is the suddenly non-working Start button. Just imagine that you are working, working, and then bam - and such a surprise popped up. Start stopped...
We are used to interacting with OS Windows using a mechanical manipulator, simply a mouse. The mouse allows you to almost not use the keyboard, because with the mouse you can:
Manage system processes;
- perform almost any system operations;
- perform the functions of the context menu.
But what if the mouse suddenly stops working? What if the manipulator does not respond to commands, twitches, does not perform the actions we need?
The mouse does not work: what to do
Physical malfunctions
1. You need to check through which connector the mouse is connected to the system unit. This could be a round PS/2 entry. In this case, it is better not to connect the connector when the computer is running, otherwise a short circuit may occur.
2. If the OS does not "see" the mouse, you need to turn off the computer without her help. To enter the Start menu, use the Ctrl + Esc combination or the Win button. "Down arrow" and Enter select "Shut down", press the "OK" button.
3. Often the reason lies in the disappearance of the contact. To check this, unplug your mouse and plug it back in. Now turn on your computer. If everything works, the problem is solved.
4. If the mouse is connected via a USB port, then it can be connected without turning off the computer. If reconnecting did not help, it is better to turn off the system unit, and then try another USB input. It happens that the mouse is not connected through a different connector, then you need to connect it to some working PC and test it.
In the case when a completely working computer "sees" the mouse, it is possible that the connector on your PC has broken or there is a problem with the software. To check the operation of the connectors and inputs, you need to connect other working mice to the PC (it is better to check both inputs - PS / 2 and USB).
Software bugs
If all the procedures with connectors and inlets, as well as other physical parameters, do not help, then the problem is probably in the software. Log in to "Control Panel". For this:
a) press the Win key, and then the "direction arrows", Tab and Enter, in the "Start" menu, find "Control Panel";
b) then find the "System and Security" icon, - the "Hardware and Sound" tab;
c) select "Device Manager".
d) through the Device Manager, expand the list "Mouse and other pointing devices";
e) then turn on the menu Shift+F10;
e) then "Delete".
g) restart the computer (below we have presented this process in screenshots).
When turned on, the system will reinstall the drivers on the newly detected device (that is, on the very mouse that we removed in the previous step).
Hardware compatibility bugs
What if you installed new programs, connected new equipment, and the mouse stopped working. In such a situation, a hardware conflict is possible.
To fix the situation, you need to log into the system through safe mode. To start Safe Mode, restart your computer and press F8 when you hear a beep. Select "Safe Mode". Then click "Yes". If the manipulator is functioning, you need to remove recently installed programs. Now turn on your computer in normal mode.
Also, the problem of hardware incompatibility can be solved by selecting "Load Last Known Good Configuration" in "System Restore". Here you need to set the restore point closest to the start date of the difficulties. If nothing happened, then choose a different time.
It is also possible to enter "System Restore" through "Safe Mode", then to continue working you need to click "No", then select a restore point.
Running Troubleshooter
Windows has a "Troubleshooting Module". You can take advantage of its capabilities.
Using the keyboard, find the "Control Panel", the "Mouse" icon, the "Hardware" tab. Press Shift+Tab to switch to Diagnostics. Then "Next". To respond to system prompts, you need to use the Shift key. Diagnostics can help identify faults.
Other Possible Problems
If all else fails, then scan your PC for viruses. You can install AVZ4 or. An anti-virus program can run on a flash drive. True, you will have to prepare such a flash drive in advance, which is almost unrealistic. However, those antiviruses that are already installed must be run for verification!
Step 1: Connect the mouse to a different USB port
Look through which input your mouse is connected to the computer. In most cases, the connection is made through the USB port, but occasionally there are devices with a PS2 connector.
First of all, you need to check the USB port is working, because it can be damaged and cause problems with operation. Connect the mouse to another port without turning off the power of the computer - it should be detected in a few seconds.
Step 2: Check the settings in Windows Device Manager
If the above method does not work, the controller responsible for the operation of the USB ports may be the culprit. The system is equipped with a function that disables or reduces the activity of individual computer components as part of a power-saving mode. There is a possibility that the mode affects and therefore Windows 10 sometimes "does not catch" left button clicks.
In Windows 10, right-click on the Start button and go to Device Manager or call it with the command "devmgmt. msc"
Expand the USB controllers item. Here you will find items such as "Generic USB Hub" and "USB Root Hub". Double-click to open each and go to the "Power Management" section.
Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Repeat these steps for each item in the USB Controllers section.
Step 3: Check your power settings
The next step is to configure the power options for the active profile. To do this, go to the Windows 10 Control Panel and type in the search box in the upper right corner "Power Options".
A window will appear with a list of primary and secondary plans. One of them will be marked, i.e. the one used by the system. Click next to it on the item "Change plan settings", and then in the new window select "Change advanced power settings".
Find USB Settings - USB Pause Setting and select Disabled. Then check how the device works.
Step 4Turn Off Touchpad Delay (Laptops)
Windows 8.1 and 10 come with features that are useful for laptop users, including a feature that slows down response to clicks as you type. Have you ever been typing on a laptop and accidentally touched the touchpad with your palm, causing the mouse cursor to jump?
Touchpad delay serves to prevent such situations. When the laptop detects that you are typing, a click delay is activated. However, this feature may not be convenient for players who play on laptops with mice, and here's why.
It turns out that in some cases the function blocks the action of the mouse buttons connected via USB. If you play on a laptop, then your hands, as a rule, are on the keyboard all the time - other input devices, according to the system, should not be involved.
The delay function treats the game in the same way as typing, and blocks mouse clicks for a short period of time, and, unfortunately, periodically (the button works every other time). In this case, the delay function on the laptop can be disabled.
There are two categories of reasons why the mouse from the computer does not work - software errors and hardware failures. However, not every user can quickly and accurately establish the truth of an ongoing event. Therefore, we will consider in detail each of the main causes of failure and how to eliminate them.
Three most likely causes
So, if the mouse on the computer does not work, then, most likely, due to the following three reasons:
- Mechanical failure. An optical, wireless or wired mouse often breaks due to a chip failure. There may also be a break in the wire or breakage in the connector of the device.
- The button and/or wheel has stopped working. Most likely, the reason lies in a mechanical failure, but there may also be software violations after a virus attack.
- The device does not work in a specific application (game, program). In this case, you need to look at the settings of the application itself.
Button atrophy
It also happens that the wheel turns pages and documents, but the right or left mouse button does not work. In the structure of the device there is such a particularly sensitive part as a mikrik. With its help, a signal is transmitted from pressing the mouse button itself. In this case, the mikrik often simply breaks off. There are two ways to solve this problem - solder a button or buy a mouse, and given that the simplest computer mouse costs a penny, many users prefer the latter.
Features of the mouse connector
The mouse can be connected to the computer via both USB and PS / 2 connectors. If the USB mouse does not work, the first thing to check is the LED. In the case when it is on, but the mouse does not work, the operating system is to blame. On the other hand, if the device does not work and the sensor does not light up, the reason lies in the failure of the USB port.
If the mouse on the computer does not work well, you don’t know what to do and how to fix it, then it’s better to just buy another one, since diagnostics and repairs can cost more than buying a new one.
Sometimes users encounter a problem when the mouse does not respond to clicks. Why can this happen? How is it proposed to deal with the task? What features and nuances of the process are recommended to pay attention to? Sometimes factors that are not at all related to information can exert their influence on the mouse. Users can immediately take faulty hardware to system administrators for diagnosis. This is a logical decision, but do not rush. You can independently figure out why the mouse does not always respond to clicks, and even deal with problems without outside help.
Trash
The first and fairly common cause of the phenomenon under study can be a banal clogging of equipment. If the mouse reacts badly to a click or does it every other time, it is recommended to check its cleanliness.
Clogging can only be eliminated on new equipment. If the device has been working for some time, then in case of problems with the mouse, you can start cleaning the component. It's not that hard to do. The result will not keep you waiting - after the user removes all the dirt accumulated under the buttons, the mouse will work in full force.
Malfunction
But this is only one scenario. In fact, there are a lot of possible layouts. Mouse not responding to clicks? It is likely that the equipment is out of order. Relevant for any device - both new and already working for some time.
Faulty equipment should be taken to service center. There, the craftsmen will check the device and tell you if it can be repaired. If yes, then it will be possible to leave the mouse at the service center until the problem is fixed. Otherwise, you will have to completely change the input device.
Health check
If a new or already cleaned of dirt and dust mouse does not respond to clicks, you can independently check its performance. To do this, it is recommended to connect the device to another computer, install the hardware drivers and make sure everything works.
This technique allows you to make visits to service centers with specific claims. Also, with the help of such a check, you can often understand the sources of problems and failures. What other scenarios are possible? What should be paid attention to in this or that case?
Jacks and connectors
Mouse not responding to clicks? What to do? For starters, don't panic. This problem occurs with many users, often the source of trouble is a purely technical component, it does not pose any danger to the computer or operating system.
Alternatively, a damaged connector could be the cause of your mouse problems. The socket to which the equipment is connected is damaged, as a result of which contact between the machine and the manipulator is established only once.
There is only one way out - connect the mouse to another socket. That's the only way to fix the problem. By the way, the connection connector on the device can also be damaged. In this situation, it is better to purchase a new mouse. After all, connectors are usually not subject to repair. Or after these manipulations, they still break, and very quickly.
Drivers
What if the mouse does not respond to clicks or does it every other time? There are a lot of options for the development of events. It has already been said that often all problems are technical. But there are exceptions.
For example, the following layout is typical for gaming mice. It's all about the drivers. This software is responsible for device recognition in the operating system. old version or the complete absence of these applications can lead to the fact that mice will work through time. Or they will even find themselves among equipment unknown to the computer.
In this case, you just need to install drivers on your computer (usually they are attached to mice) or update existing ones. After that, the operating system reboots. Is there any progress? Then you don't have to worry. Is the mouse still not working properly? We need to look further for the source of the problem. There are still a lot of alternatives.
touchpad
Only laptop owners face such a problem. The mouse does not always respond to clicks or does not work at all, although there is a cursor? You can try to check the operation of the touchpad. If it functions normally, it is recommended to disable this component.
The thing is that some laptops and operating system assemblies do not support the simultaneous operation of the touchpad and mouse. Therefore, a hardware conflict occurs. As a result, the mouse refuses to work normally.
As soon as the touchpad is disabled, the connected device will return to full functionality. And you can continue to use the mouse. By the way, do not be surprised if the problem arose suddenly - no one is immune from this.
CPU
But if the mouse does not immediately respond to clicks, then the problem may be different. For example, a slow response from information is sometimes due to high CPU usage.
Why does this happen on computers? There are a lot of options. Among the most common are the following:
- a large number of functioning programs;
- the computer does not meet the system requirements of the operating system;
- viruses;
- long operation of the equipment without shutting down or rebooting;
- lack of hard disk space for normal operation of the OS.
In any case, you need to provide the processor with unloading. It is recommended to close numerous programs running in the background and restart the machine. Better to give her a few hours to rest. Next, the user must resume the attempt to connect the mouse. The problem should be gone.
Viruses
Mouse not responding to clicks? The virus, as already mentioned, is the wave of the real cause of the equipment malfunction that occurs. Any computer "infection" can lead to this phenomenon.
How to be in that case? You need to try to cure the computer. If the problem is observed on a laptop, the touchpad will save. With it, you can easily control the computer and the cursor. The anti-virus system will find and disinfect potentially dangerous files. If this fails, the user will be prompted to delete the document.
As a rule, when the cursor cannot be controlled at all, the computer is taken to a service center. There, the system will be quickly cured of all viruses without causing any damage to the owner's data.
Incompatibility
If the mouse does not respond to clicks, you should pay attention to system requirements. The thing is that all modern equipment has certain requests for a computer. Failure to comply with them makes the operation of the device impossible. Or it will be unstable.
When incompatibility is found specifically with the operating system, you can solve the problem in several ways. Either the user changes the OS, or the connected equipment. The second option is the most common in practice. Particular attention is recommended to be paid to compatibility issues for owners of Windows 10. A lot of hardware conflicts with this operating system. Therefore, it is not necessary to be surprised that Windows does not respond to mouse clicks.
What to do in this situation? It has already been said: either change the connected equipment, or change the operating system. How exactly to proceed? Everyone decides for himself.
Power supply
This is the last reason why the mouse connected to the computer does not respond. All the fault of the power settings. Most often this problem occurs on laptops.
As practice shows, after that the work of the mouse is getting better. In fact, everything is not so difficult. It is enough to go through all the possible options. Only in this way will it be possible to 100% understand what the matter is. There is no need to rush into purchasing new equipment. It is likely that you can do without it.
If the user doubts his abilities, you can take the computer along with the faulty equipment to a service center. They will quickly help not only diagnose, but also fix any computer problem. How exactly to proceed? The final decision always remains with the user!
