At the end of last year, Microsoft released another update for Windows 10 that allows you to change the colors of the title bars of active windows. But this feature is not available to all users.
Requirements
Setting the color scheme of the elements of the explorer is available only to users who use activated Windows 10 s installed update 1511. For a non-activated OS, the function of changing the color of windows, like the entire personalization section, will be unavailable, and it also does not work without the specified update.
So update your activated (or jailbroken) Windows 10, preferably by installing all available updates, and restart your computer.
If you don't want to do this, install at least update 1511 (build number 10586). You can check if it is installed in the system settings. See the lines "Build OS" and "Version".
Algorithm for changing the parameters of the conductor using the "tens"
In Windows 10, window colors change without all sorts of hacks that involve replacing themes and settings in their configuration. Now everything can be done with operating system.
- We call the context menu of the desktop, select "Personalization" from the drop-down list of available functions.
The same can be done in a more complicated way: go to "Start", click "Settings", and then - "Personalization".
- Activate the "Colors" tab, which allows you to change the design Windows windows 10.
- Activate the option shown in the screenshot.
- Choose the color you like from a small list of suggested ones and save the new window design settings.
Keep in mind. When you activate the option to automatically select the main background color, Windows 10 will automatically select the color for the design of windows and other components of the explorer (if the corresponding option is enabled), based on the range of wallpapers installed on the desktop. Moreover, if the wallpaper is not static, the explorer's palette of elements also dynamically changes based on the current picture set as its background.
Set your own active window design options
If the proposed list does not contain the color that you would like to see in the window title, you can add it yourself, and not use the 10 options that the developers offer.
- We launch the registry editor by executing the system command "Regedit" in the search line or the command interpreter line.
- Let's go to:
- Find the first or one of the first keys called "AccentColor" and double click on it.
- In the "Value" field, enter the color code in hexadecimal.
Such a code can be found by using the appropriate online service for converting colors or using a utility, for example, Color point.
Surprisingly, instead of color encoding in this case, for some reason, BGR is used, and not RGB. This means that the first two characters in the code must be swapped with the last two. For example: you need to set the color with the code 65AD01. 65 swap with 01 and enter the code "01AD65" in the "Value:" field.
Immediately after clicking on the "OK" button, the new settings will take effect without requiring the user to restart the computer or explorer. You just need to switch to a new window.
After turning off the option to change the color scheme of the window header, the value of the key will be reset, and the next time it will have to be re-entered manually.
Personalization of inactive windows
The Windows 10 registry also has the ability to change the color of an inactive window. To do this, go to the registry key, as above. We create a string parameter called "AccentColorInactive", enter its color as before, given that Microsoft uses BGR encoding for this.
Configuring Start and Taskbar Colors
The current registry key contains a few more keys that allow you to set the color of the "Start" and "Taskbar" without affecting the window design.
- In the "Color" tab of the "Personalization" menu, we activate the option responsible for displaying color in the start, notification center and taskbar.
- Switch to the Registry Editor and change the "ColorPrevalence" value to "0".
As a result, the above elements will be painted in the color selected from the list, and the window titles will not change the color gamut, that is, they will remain as they were, even if their color value was entered manually, taking into account the RGB-BGR conversion.
Replacing the colors of the "Taskbar"
To set your own color for the "Taskbar", you need to go to the section:
Here we find the parameter already known to us called "ColorPrevalence" and enter its value equal to "2".
After that, you will have to restart Windows 10 or File Explorer. We choose the second option due to its simplicity. We launch the "Task Manager", on the "Processes" tab we find the element of the same name, call its context menu and select "Restart".
In principle, the Winaero Tweaker utility allows you to do all this, automating almost all the routine tasks of finding, creating and editing keys, which is why setting the window color will take only a few seconds.

Windows 10, and there is. But if you are used to the dark theme of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, then in Windows 10 you will not find your familiar theme. In the new OS, the themes are quite light, and therefore, users feel an additional strain on the eyes.
While Microsoft has yet to implement a system-wide setting for enabling dark theme, you can now darken some of your everyday apps and other elements such as . Here we will tell you how to install a dark theme on Windows 10 and how to change the color of windows without being an expert.
The darkest Office theme is gray
If you subscribe to Office 365, you must have the latest versions of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel office applications, as well as a number of other Microsoft Office applications. (If not, you can install them from your account.)
By default, these apps are pretty light, but luckily Microsoft has provided an easy way to darken them a bit (although you can't set it to pure black).
First, open any of your office applications. We'll demonstrate this using Word, but you can make changes in any office application using the same steps.
Then select File in the upper left corner.
Then select Account at the bottom of the menu on the left, and in the option Office Theme select dark gray from the dropdown menu.
As you can see above, with the dark gray theme, nothing has changed in the application, but the background around the sheet has become a little darker, and the title of the document at the top and the scroll bar have been made more visible.
The start menu and taskbar have a dark theme by default
Since they are the main elements that are used on a daily basis, it is very important how they look. Fortunately, Microsoft has provided several options for changing their appearance.
For this, click on windows logo in the lower left corner of your desktop.
Then press .
Select .
Here you can see the changes if you turn off Automatic selection of the main background color. After that, a grid of colors will appear. Choose the darkest gray option.
Also make sure all other colors are disabled.
As a result Task bar and start menu should become almost black or dark gray with gray icons. That's how easy it is to get a dark theme.
Edge browser has a dark theme
You are using latest browser Microsoft specially designed for Windows 10? You're in luck because it has a built-in dark color theme.
To change the color of Edge, simply open your browser, go to the three-dot menu located in the upper right corner and select Settings at the bottom of the drop down menu.
In option Topic selection select Dark, and the theme color will change.
This dark theme is actually completely black with dark gray accents, which gives the edges of the browser a modern aesthetic and pleasing. appearance.
Google Chrome supports third party themes
Are you still using Chrome? Even if you manage to darken all other apps and elements in Windows 10, it will all be for nothing if your browser theme remains blindingly white.
Fortunately, Chrome users have access to a wide variety of themes in the Chrome Web Store and have the ability to change them. My favorite dark theme is called Dark Theme and is made by mausx3.
Above you can see Chrome without any theme.
And this is how Chrome looks with the dark theme installed. For added effect, you can leave the default Blackle. At the same time, the Google search box remains, it seems, the same, but a black background is used instead of white.
High Contrast Mode Turns Windows Black
If it's more important for you to have a black theme than just a beautiful one, High Contrast Mode will come to your rescue.
This method, of course, is not common, but still gives greater clarity to the image on a fairly dark screen. See for yourself.
Above are app settings with default theme.
And these are the application settings in the mode Contrasting black.
To achieve this, simply go to and select .
Then you need to press Topics from the left menu, and then Theme Options.
There you can turn on the high contrast mode. To get everything back, just follow the same path and install one of the "Default" themes found in Windows 10.
Registry Hack Add Stylish Black Theme
This method of changing the theme color is possible if you are familiar with the Windows Registry Editor. Experimenting with the registry can damage your computer, so be careful and remember that we are not responsible for your actions.
It seems fantastic, but this registry patch allows you to set a completely black theme in the application settings, the Windows store, and some others. System applications. To do this, simply download this one and double-click on the file named .
You may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect, but for me the changes were immediately visible. Above you can see the dark Parameters screen.
And this is the dark theme of the Windows Store. To undo all of these changes, simply navigate to the ZIP folder and double-click the enable-light-theme.reg entry to revert to the default colors.
How do you like the themes for Windows 10?
Dark themes can really be the saviors of your eyes.
But we would also like to hear from you: what methods do you use to change themes in Windows 10? Let us know in the comments!
By setting new version OS from Microsoft, many users for a long time could not understand how to change the color of familiar interface elements in Windows 10 - window titles, taskbars and others. In fact, everything turned out to be easier than many thought. Let's talk about everything in order.
Start and taskbar
To understand how to change the color of the "Start" in Windows 10, you should:
Step #1
Open, which here is called "Options". This can be done by right-clicking the mouse and selecting "Personalization" from the context menu of the desktop.
Step #3
Turn off the auto tint switch.
Step #4
As soon as you do this, the familiar palette will immediately appear on the screen, in which you can select the main design gamut, in which titles, the taskbar, tiles and other parts of the GUI of the operating system will be automatically painted.
Actually, you can also answer the question of how to change the color of the tiles in Windows 10. But dynamic tiles, whose appearance is “hard” put into them by the creators, are unlikely to be tough for you - you have to put up with it.
Finally, it also makes no sense to ask how to change the frame color in Windows 10 - it changes along with everyone else, however, the frame itself is so thin that it can be quite difficult to notice.
Dealing with transparency
If there is a question that is more popular, it is how to change the view, TRANSPARENCY windows in Windows 10. At the moment, everything is quite complicated with transparency - you won’t find the usual slider in the new Axis, but you can turn off transparency completely, making the interface more “flat design”. This is all done in the same place - in the color settings section of the "Personalization" item. This time you should pay attention to the bottom switch.
A few words about the conductor
Some users would also like to know how to change the color of the explorer in Windows 10, that's just the explorer itself ... white, so there is not much to change there. However, regarding the title, the advice given by us in the previous parts is relevant here.
However, not a single color, if you are interested in how to change the look of folders in Windows 10, we also have the right answer.
First of all, pay attention to the "View" tab, which is now in any directory browser. If its capabilities are not enough for you, then you can "dig" in the "Parameters" section of this tab - there are enough settings options for everyone.
Update from 08/02/2016:
With the release of the Anniversary Update (Version 1607, Build 14393), you can apply color to window titles other than Start, Taskbar, and Notification Center directly from the Settings app in the Colors tab. In the same place, you can also enable dark design for universal applications.
Update from 11/12/2015:
Microsoft has released, with which, among other things, you can now change the color of window titles without using any tweaks, hacks or third-party utilities, and therefore everything written earlier in this article is no longer relevant.
The new feature is located in Settings > Personalization > Colors. To apply a color other than white to window title bars, simply turn on the feature mentioned above and, if necessary, turn off the "Automatic selection of the main background color" option to select one of the available colors.
The selected color is applied not only to window titles, but also to Start, the taskbar, and the notification center. Personally, this does not suit me; I would like everything except the window titles to remain black. Unfortunately, there is no such option in the system parameters, but this can be implemented through the registry. Do you want to know how? Then keep reading.
1. Change the color of window titles without affecting the Start menu, taskbar and notification center.
1. Do right-click on the desktop and select "Personalize".
2. Go to the "Colors" subsection. Turn off the option "Show color in the start menu, taskbar, action center, and title bar" if it is enabled.
3. Now we need to open the registry editor. We enter the command regedit in the search bar and press Enter.
4. Navigates to the following registry key:
5. Opening the parameter Color Prevalence and change its value to 1.
6. We close the registry. You don't need to restart your computer. Now the window titles will be painted in the color selected in the settings, while the Start, taskbar and notification center will remain black.
The ColorPrevalence setting will be reset to 0 (zero) after re-enabling and disabling the "Show Color in the Start Menu, Taskbar, Action Center, and Title Bar" option.
2. Change the color of the Start menu, taskbar and notification center without affecting the window titles
1. Go to the settings in the "Personalization" section and turn on the option "Show color in the start menu, taskbar, action center, and title bar". At the same time, we choose the color we need.
2. Open the registry editor and go to the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM
3. Finding the parameter Color Prevalence and change its value from 1 to 0.
As a result, the Start, taskbar and notification center will remain in the color that we selected in the options, while the window titles will turn white.
3. Change the color of the taskbar without affecting the Start menu and the notification center
This method will allow you to colorize the taskbar and leave Start and the notification center black.
1. In the parameters enable the option "Show color in the start menu, taskbar, action center, and title bar".
2. Open the registry editor and go to the following branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize
3. Finding the parameter Color Prevalence and set its value to 2.
4. Open Task Manager and restart the File Explorer process.
We get this result:
That's all.
Update from 08/03/2015:
If it does not work for you, and in order to avoid having to follow this instruction manually, use the program, which fully automates the process described above in addition to some other useful functions.
Original article dated 07/03/2015:
There is one feature in Windows 10 that most users are unhappy with. The operating system allows you to change the color of the Start menu and the taskbar - you can even make them transparent - but it does not allow you to color the title bar of your choice. As a result, users are forced to settle for one single color.
In previous Windows versions You can change the color of the window title bar with a few mouse clicks. In Windows 10, the default window color is white. The problem is not even that this color is rather boring in itself, but that there is no possibility to choose another color according to your taste. The only thing that can be done is to change the color of the window border, but there is no way to change the color of the title bar, at least not with built-in tools.
Fortunately, there are people who stop at nothing, and Sergey Tkachenko, author of the WinAero blog, is one of them. He came up with a fairly simple way to get around the limitation of the new operating system described above and set the window title bars to any of a variety of other colors.
You don't need any third-party programs, tools or utilities for this. The whole process is to work with Windows system files.
So open up Windows Explorer and follow the following path:
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes
Now copy the folder (Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V) named "aero" and create a copy of it here.
When copying a folder, you will see the dialog box "No access to the folder" - click "Continue". And when you see the "File access denied" window, click skip to skip copying MSS files.
Rename the created folder "aero-copy" in Windows.
Open the Windows folder and rename the file aero.mstyles in windows.msstyles.
Now open the folder en-EN(and en-US, respectively, if you have an English version of the operating system). Rename the file here aero.msstyles.mui in windows.msstyles.mui.
Go back to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes.
Copy the file aero.theme to your desktop and then rename it to windows.theme.
Open this file with notepad.
Find the following line:
Path=%ResourceDir%\Themes\Aero\Aero.msstyles
and replace it with:
Path=%ResourceDir%\Themes\windows\windows.msstyles
Save your changes.
That's all!
To apply a different color for window titles, double-click on the windows.theme file.
To choose a color to your liking, open the Settings app, go to the Personalization section, and in the Colors subsection, select the one you like.
Have a great day!
