Quite often, owners of mobile devices on the operating Android system wondering: how to take a screenshot on a tablet (smartphone)? As a rule, such a question arises from inexperienced users, however, mobile device gurus are sometimes asked about this. Why can a seemingly simple action like taking a screenshot lead to a dead end? The fact is that some manufacturers for their digital devices running the Android OS introduce their own combination of buttons to create a screenshot.
That is why the general operation to take a screenshot from the screen of an Android tablet or smartphone may not work on some models. It all depends on the manufacturer and OS version. Deviating from the topic, I’ll say that owners of tablets (iPad) based on iOS (from version 2.x) do not know about such a disaster, since the same key combination is used on all models of the device. In order to take a screenshot on such a digital device, you need to simultaneously hold down the two Home and On-Off keys for a moment. The image will be saved to the Camera Roll album.
Alas, this is not our case. Quite often, uninformed owners of mobile devices with the Android operating system have to poke through all sorts of combinations on their device to take a screenshot. Well, let's try to understand a simple and at the same time complex issue.
The generally accepted procedure for taking a picture on an Android device.
With the development of the operating system, a certain standard has been established for creating a screenshot on mobile devices. However, not everything is so smooth here. The fact is that the creation of a snapshot depends not only on the version of the operating system, but also on the very line of devices released by one or another manufacturer.
Apparently a wide range of tablets and smartphones from different manufacturers in the race for leadership and maintaining their brand have deprived Android mobile devices of a single way to take a screenshot. You can't do anything - business. First of all, we will consider the order and possibility of creating a screenshot as the Android operating system itself develops.
Historically, devices running on the free operating system Android 1.x and 2.x do not know how to take a screenshot on their own. There is no way to apply any keyboard shortcuts, and even more so use a dedicated touch button, since it is not there. Therefore, owners of such devices will have to install the application from Google Play. Fortunately, there are a lot of them, but many of them require ROOT user rights.
On devices with Android 3.2 and higher, press and hold the Recent Apps button for a while. These are two rectangles in the control panel of a tablet or smartphone.
But on a device with Android version 4.1 "Ice Cream Sandwich" and higher, the ability to create a screenshot using the operating system has already been implemented. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time for a few seconds to take a screenshot. As a rule, after a combination of these hardware keys, a picture is taken, accompanied by a message with a characteristic sound of the camera shutter.
This is the standard way to take a screenshot from a tablet or smartphone screen of many lines. A significant part of mobile devices from manufacturers HTC, LG, iconBIT (in particular NetTAB Matrix), Lenovo, Huawei, Sony, Xiaomi, Motorola and Nexus supports this method. But among them, there are also rulers that are an exception to the "rules". We'll talk about the bottom below.
After performing the operation in the above way, an icon will appear in the status bar, and the “Screenshots” folder will be created in the gallery, in which all the screenshots taken (Pictures / Screenshots) will be placed.
Now, let's take a quick look at a few other players in the mobile market where manufacturers have implemented their own image capture techniques. I think there are a lot of them, but we will pay attention only to some popular models from leading brands.
Taking screenshots on Android models.
To begin with, there are a number of firmware on mobile devices that allow you to take a picture using a pop-up menu. To call this function, you need to press the power button and click on the "Screenshot" item in the pop-up menu. For example, such an opportunity is implemented in one of the Acer Liquid S2 models and Sony Xperia V. However, on a Sony Xperia device, you can also take screenshots using the combination of the Volume Down and Power buttons.
Samsung approached this issue more creatively and diversified the execution of this operation on the lines of mobile devices. So for example, the line Samsung smartphones Galaxy Note, Note 2, Note 3, Note 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Note 10.1 tablets allow you to take a screenshot using the S-Pen.
To do this, you just need to touch the stylus with a delay of a few seconds to the screen (or the icon on the S-Pen display) of a digital device by first holding the button on the S-Pen. You will then see a slight flash and hear the camera shutter release.
Now the resulting image can be edited or immediately sent to the gallery (Picture/Screenshots). The interface of the pop-up editor for the ruler may be slightly different, but the principle of creating a snapshot for these devices is similar.
There is another unique way of capturing an image from the screen of Samsung's line of mobile devices, which is provided in latest versions TouchWiz user interface. On such devices, you can take a screenshot simply by swiping the edge of your palm across the screen from one edge to the other. Activation of the function depending on the device model in the settings may be slightly different.
Usually you can get to it along the path: "My device" - section "Movements" - subsection "Hand movements" - check the box "Screenshot with the palm" or another option "Control" - "Palm control" - "Screenshot". It remains only to swipe the edge of your hand across the screen to get a picture.
Finally, the most common way to take a picture on Samsung mobile devices. For example, the Galaxy Tab 3 and other Android brethren allow you to perform an action using a keyboard shortcut. Simultaneously hold down the hardware buttons “Power” (On / Off) and “Home” (Home) and hold for a few seconds.
After that, you will hear the familiar shutter sound of the camera and the picture will be taken. You will find the screenshot itself at the already familiar address in the "Gallery" (Screenshots folder).
But the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 2, Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8013) tablets have a special touch button for taking a screenshot. You just need to click on the "Screen Capture" button and the image will be saved in a folder with the same name.
And at the end of the article, a few words about HTC mobile devices. Actually, on HTC One, Sensation, Desire models, you can take a screenshot in the same way as in one of the Samsung lines. You need to simultaneously hold down and hold the "Power / Lock Screen" and "Home / Home" buttons for a couple of seconds.
Also, on many devices (for example, the Explorer model) from HTC, the generally accepted method works. Press the Power + Volume down buttons at the same time for 2-3 seconds to take a screenshot.

Tanya: Thanks for the addition. As you know, the Chinese often make their models op analogies of some brand. Accordingly, the functions of the popular line are also transferred to their models. Indeed, inexperienced users can, for example, get into the "Recovery" mode and accidentally do full reset settings.
2014-11-12T10:19:01+00:00
Such information will be useful to many users of Android devices. By the way, not only Samsung has a touch button for creating a screenshot, the Chinese also have this feature available. And I would also like to clarify about the combination of hardware buttons on different devices: it is better for inexperienced users to know which combination allows you to take a picture and not to experiment with all the buttons in a row, so as not to accidentally hard reset (factory reset) your tablet or smartphone and thereby not delete the necessary information.
Every smartphone owner should know how to take a screenshot on Samsung. This is a useful feature that is available in every modern phone. Consider how you can take a screen shot on Samsung J6, J3, C8, A5, A7 or other models.
Below we will study in detail how you can take a screenshot on the Samsung A6 or other modern models. There are several effective methods for taking a screenshot, which are used depending on your device.
Method number 1
The first method is standard and is used in almost all modern Android phones. To take a screenshot, just hold down two keys - Volume Down and Power On, as shown below.
Method number 2
The second option, explaining how to take a screenshot on a Samsung A7 or on another Android phone model, also consists in holding down certain buttons. This method is suitable for all new devices that went on sale in the next 2 years, and where there is a mechanical Home key.
Hold down two buttons - call the menu and power.
Method number 3
If your Samsung is an older model, where operating system version 2 or 3, then you need to hold down "Home" or "Back". Often the buttons presented are already mechanical, just press them at the same time.
Method number 4
New smartphones that are now on sale imply a different way to screen. The manufacturer did not remove the function of holding specific keys to create a screenshot, and added another feature. You can take a screenshot with a gesture.
By default, this feature is disabled in the options. To enable this feature you need:
- Go to settings.
- At the bottom, find the "Additional Features" section.
- Opposite the function that allows you to screen the screen with your palm, check the box or move the slider to the “On” position.
After that, you can take a photo with a gesture. Just slide your palm across the screen from right to left.
Is there a difference how to take a screenshot depending on the model
Some users are wondering if it is possible to use any option they like for printscreen? No. Depending on the model of your smartphone, the method will vary. So, for example, owners of older Galaxy phones can do this by holding down the volume and power keys, while more modern models imply additional simplified screen functions. Let's say devices that are released in the near future support an accessibility feature that allows you to take a screenshot using the palm of your hand.
After you make a printscreen, a corresponding notification will appear at the top that the procedure has been successfully completed.
Where are screenshots stored?
The screenshots taken are stored in the Gallery in the "Screenshots" folder. You can also use a special program - file manager(for example, TotalCommander) by downloading it from Google Play, and find the picture in the Pictures folder - Screenshots or ScreenCapture.
Frequently Asked Questions and Mistakes
Sometimes, the described methods may not work. Why? Perhaps you held the buttons too little, or pressed them at the wrong time. It is important to use two buttons at the same time. If the presented options did not bring the desired result, then:
- This means that your smartphone / tablet belongs to another manufacturer, as a result of which it does not support standard methods.
- You are using a counterfeit or pirated device. There are dishonest stores that pass off weak hardware as modern smartphones.
The phone has a non-standard firmware that is not supported by the developer. Reinstall it to original.
