There are a lot of complaints from players about an error in connecting to World of Tanks. In this article we will tell you how to solve the problem with the connection of three different ways and dwell on each in detail. The solution is suitable for those who, when connecting to tanks, receive the following error:
Unable to connect to server
- The server may not be available or you may need to check your network connection settings.
Connection problem in tanks
The player himself writes the following about this error:
It doesn’t go to the test server either, I play other games without any problems, I’m sitting in the TS, I write on the forum, the updates were downloaded and installed on the test server, but I can’t enter the game. There are no mods.
Solution
Option 1.
According to our data, this problem occurs for those players who use xDSL (ADSL 2+) technology and a high-speed modem to connect to the Internet. Immediately after the previous patch, the World of Tanks server began to cut off tankers with an unstable network connection from the game. All cases spoke specifically about a modem connection, which, by the way, is high-speed and is not inferior in stability to ETTx and even xPON technology, if no more than 300 meters of a copper pair are laid from the player’s computer to the PBX. However, ADSL is able to provide Internet access even at distances of several kilometers (here the connection quality drops sharply).
Solution for option 1. If using ADSL, try to consider alternatives Internet access using more stable PON technologies (optics to a PC) or ETTH (optics to a home with branching to users with an RJ-45 twisted pair cable).
Option 2.
These are, of course, the network settings of your personal computer, which are mentioned in the error in connecting to the tanks. This primarily includes configuring the router, NAT, issuing permissions to connect to the worldoftanks.exe file in firewalls and adding exceptions to firewalls. Also opening ports used to connect to WOT.
Solution for option 2. Places to look to check your network connection settings if the server is unavailable include:
- Settings of the used network card and adapter parameters (DNS, IP address, gateway in the TCP/IP protocol).
- Network connection settings. Namely: a shortcut through which you connect to the Internet (relevant for bridging connections); web interface of the router or modem at: http://192.168.1.1 with login admin and password admin (relevant for PPoE connections).
- Firewall settings built into the antivirus. It is done through the antivirus management program. Add an exception in blocking connections with World server of Tanks for the executable file of the same name with the .exe extension from the game folder.
- Settings Windows firewall. Here you should also allow a connection to the World of Tanks server by adding an exception for the game.
- Network group settings (home, public, and others).
Option 3
This is a rare but not unimportant situation that can cause an error in which a connection to the server cannot be established. This includes blocking the player's IP address on the World of Tanks server you are trying to connect to. The MAC address (hardware address that identifies a device on the network) can also be blocked.
Solution for option 3. We recommend that you change the static IP address given to you by your ISP. If you have a dynamic IP address, it is enough to reconnect the Internet to change your IP address to a new one. In the case of blocking by MAC address, you will have to contact Wargaming with a request to unlock the MAC of your network card, modem or PC (unless, of course, you are going to change them or use another computer, modem, router and network card to connect to World of Tanks ).
Probably there is no such young person in Russia who has not heard about World of Tanks - an online real-time game in the genre of an arcade tank simulator based on World War II. Addictive gameplay that combines shooter, strategy and RPG at the same time has attracted millions of fans around the world. As a result, Tanks became the most popular online game in 2012, 2013 and 2014. And even now interest in it does not weaken. Unfortunately, the game sometimes has problems due to which World of Tanks won't start and gamers are sad. So that they are not upset, I made this post. The fact is that usually Tanks do not work due to one of a certain number of the most common reasons, which I will now talk about.
1. Tanks won't start
You click on the tab, but nothing happens - zero response.
To start diagnosing, you need to check whether the launcher is working - a special utility that launches all program modules. To do this, go to the folder with installed game(usually C:\Games\World of Tanks ) and run the executable file in it worldoftanks.exe. Here he is:
If the game starts after that, then the problem is in it. The launcher is called WoTLauncher.exe and is in the same folder:
It may not work due to being blocked by the computer's security system. This happens because proactive protection sees that some application is constantly surfing the Internet and downloading something. This behavior seems suspicious and the application is blocked. Try temporarily disabling your antivirus and test the game.
Note:
In some cases, the antivirus may skip the launcher, but delete the game file itself. Then a warning will be issued - "Starting the game is impossible. Worldoftanks.exe is missing"
In this case, you will need to go to the antivirus settings, restore the deleted file from the quarantine and add it to the exclusions.
Common causes of game launch errors:
If the Tanks do not even start directly, remember what you did before with the game or the computer.
- Very often, new mods are the cause of the failure. In the WoT folder there will be a res_mods directory. Its contents must be cleared and try to run the program again.
- Maybe you updated drivers or DirectX ?! In this case, you should try to roll back to old version or use a Windows restore point, which will allow you to return to a previous state of the operating system.
- Check that the drivers for the video card (Nvidia, Radeon) and DirectX are up to date. Update them if there are new versions.
- For normal operation of the game, the Visual C ++ 2015 library package must be installed on the computer and .NET Framework version 4.0. Without them, it may also not start or give various errors.
- Try to completely reinstall the game. Delete the existing copy, then download the installer from the official site and install the game on your PC again.
If you installed the game for the first time and World of Tanks does not start, check if your computer meets the system requirements:
At least 36 GB of free disk space. - at least 2 GB of RAM. - The minimum Internet speed is 256 Kbps. - video cards from GeForce 6800 / ATI HD 2400 XT with 256 MB of memory. - DirectX not older than 9.0c. - Dual-core processor supporting SSE2 technology.
Script errors when starting World of Tanks
This kind of malfunction occurs in the browser due to the fact that the game cannot run a script without which it cannot work.
Typically, the cause of a script error is a security feature of the operating system. Roughly speaking, the antivirus blocks the work of scripts and scripts, regarding them as unsafe. Therefore, try deactivating your anti-virus software for a while and check the operation of the game.
If World of Tanks still does not start with a script error, try updating your browser, you may be using a fairly old version that does not properly process interaction with game files.
Do not forget that as a result of software or even hardware failures, the scripts themselves can be damaged. Usually a complete reinstallation of the game helps.
Worlds of Tanks client update error
Avid "tankers" at least once, but faced with update errors in Tanks.
The reasons for the WoT update error are as follows:
- The server with the game updates is unavailable
- Problems with Internet access
- Bug with updates to certain mods or certain game configurations.
To eliminate the first two reasons, you will have to "kick" the technical support of your provider. But in order to remove the crash associated with mods, you will have to try to remove the mods of the game, as I said earlier, and see the result.
In some cases, again, only reinstalling the program saves.
Error D3DX9_43.DLL, XC000007B, 0x00000003, etc.
All errors in launch world of Tanks related to system files and libraries are the result of problems that arose in the operating system itself. Windows system. For example, a D3DX9_43.DLL error usually means a DirectX crash, while an XC000007B error is due to system file corruption or settings changes.
The same thing can happen if a virus has taken over the system.
I’ll give this advice here - check the OS with a good antivirus - DrWeb CureIT or Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, then install latest version DirectX and update your graphics card drivers.
Game recovery
If the launcher loads without any problems, but the Tanki game itself does not start, then there is another option that is integrated by the developers. To use it, go to "Settings" and go to the "Support" tab.
There will be a "Check" button. By clicking on it, we will start the process of checking the integrity of the game files. If a problem is found, the file will be restored.
P.S.: If none of my advice helped you, then do not forget that the game has an excellent support service that can also help you. You just need to correctly describe the problem and prepare a few screenshots, where the World of Tanks launch error will be displayed. After that, go to the official website in the "Support" section and create a new application.
The World of Tanks game does not start - the "play" button does not work.
One of the common problems logging into World of Tanks is related to the "Play" button in the launcher. It is this button that must be pressed every time you start the game. But what if it doesn't work. You press and nothing happens - World of Tanks does not start? To answer this question, we have collected the most common errors when logging into WOT and described solutions for each of the problems. Let's consider each one in order, starting with the inoperability of the launcher.
If when you enter the game you cannot enter World of Tanks, you need to open the launcher, click "play" and see what happens. With a long wait, the problem with logging into WOT is often hidden behind the inability to connect to the Wargaming servers serving the cluster you have chosen. In this case, you should check for a problem on your PC, namely:
Is your firewall blocking the port through which data is exchanged between the World of Tanks client and the server?
If so, you need to add an exception to the firewall. If this is an ordinary Windows firewall, just go to the control panel, select "Firewall" and add the worldoftanks.exe file, as well as the wotlauncher.exe launcher executable file, to the list of exceptions. This can be done by double-clicking on the "Firewall" icon and going to the "Exceptions" tab, then adding the above files with the .exe extension from the folder with the World of Tanks game.
Setting up the World of Tanks launcher
Is the application (game) blocked by your antivirus?
If you have installed anti-virus software and have not configured it properly, by default, all connections to the programs you installed earlier, including the World of Tanks game, will be blocked. To unblock, add an exception in the management shell of your antivirus (Kaspersky, Dr.Web, Nod32, Eset and others) according to the principle described for the Windows firewall (above).
Used mods for World of Tanks
Very often, mods can cause the "Play" button in the World of Tanks launcher to not work. Usually, even the best and most time-tested mod fails, especially after its update, which was released just before the next patch for WOT. Often, mod developers are in a hurry to have time to release a release that supports a new update for World of Tanks, creating a patch for the mod based on a test version of the game. Using such a "quick" update for a popular mod leads to problems with entering the game both after the release of the next version of the World of Tanks, and after the release of micropatches, 1-2 weeks after the main release.
I press the "play" button and does not enter World of Tanks
To check if the use of modifications prevents you from entering the game, disable them for a while. To do this, just rename the res_mods folder and restart the PC before trying to login.
Does not enter World of Tanks: I click "Play" and does not enter
Among the problems with the "Play" button, the second place is occupied by errors related to the Internet connection. Check this category of login errors according to our instructions:
Find out what IP address is used when connecting your PC to the Internet, static or dynamic?
- With a static IP address, you are allocated the same address each time you connect to the Internet, and it is also credited when you enter World of Tanks. If your static ip address is banned in tanks, every time you try to click on the "play" button in the launcher, you will not be able to connect. To solve this problem, contact your provider with a request to replace the static IP address allocated to you with another one. Some providers charge for this service, while others charge it for free. Occasionally, to replace the IP address, you may need a specialist to visit your home. More rarely, this service is not provided at all.
- In the case of a dynamic IP address, there are also problems when the launcher does not enter wot when the wedge is about the "play" button. This happens when you are allocated an ip-address banned by Wargaming when connecting to the Internet. This does not mean that you were banned, someone else playing under this dynamic address in World of Tanks was banned by IP. To solve this problem, simply reconnect to the Internet (break the connection and reconnect).
Solving the problem with the "play" button in World of Tanks
Not included in World of Tanks
In addition to the network or internet connection problems described above, as well as your PC settings, there is a category of problems related to the game itself. Consider these errors when entering World of Tanks:
You updated the game and some files were not updated. Error while updating.
If after the update you cannot enter the game, and after clicking "play" the launcher freezes for a long time, then the World of Tanks update was unsuccessful. The game will not always inform you about this. However, when connecting, the server will definitely check whether the hash of the client files installed on your PC matches the current game update. If at least one file differs even by 1 byte or is missing, the server will not allow you to enter the "World of Tanks" and will send a command to the launcher to try to update again.
Solving the problem with the inoperability of the game
The launcher will not be able to update again, and the game will freeze when you click on "play" and here's why: some directory or a separate file (less often many files) in the game folder is not writable for the current Windows user. That is, the user under which you logged into Windows to play World of Tanks cannot overwrite old files for some reason. And there may be several reasons:
- the user does not have enough rights to manage the computer;
- the user's rights have been restricted by another user;
- the user himself has limited the rights to the World of Tanks game files intentionally or not;
- the antivirus manages files as it sees fit on your PC.
Each of these items needs to be checked separately and to find out if the error when starting World of Tanks through the launcher causes problems during the update.
What to do if World of Tanks does not work
The easiest solution to the problem when it does not enter the game can be reinstalling World of Tanks. Don't be afraid to erase all files to make sure they don't interfere with entering the tanks. The client version of WOT that you install on your PC does not contain any personal data that can be lost when uninstalling World of Tanks, except for files with your replays and mods you installed earlier. We have already found out about mods - it’s better not to dwell on them if you want to solve a problem with the game. Feel free to reinstall the game, it usually takes about half an hour.
If reinstalling didn't help, there's a good chance that the problem with the "play" button is related to your network or internet connection (solution above).
World of Tanks hangs when entering the game
Particular attention should be paid to the drivers used for the video card and the availability of a license for the operating system. The error I click on the play button and does not enter can be caused by the lack of a license for Windows, as well as outdated drivers for your video card. To solve these problems, start by updating the "firewood" for the video adapter by going to the manufacturer's website, downloading from there and installing the latest driver version that matches your operating system and its bit depth (32 or 64 bit). To solve problems with Windows, it is recommended to purchase a license (at your discretion). This will save you from most potential problems with entering World of Tanks and the launcher.
When registering in the game client, such a message may pop up. What needs to be done first.
Actions
1. You must turn off the firewall and repeat the login procedure.
2. Then follow the steps step by step:
Launch the game and try to connect to any server again.
Required for the Launcher and the game client to antivirus/firewall ports were opened:
For WorldOfTanks.exe:
3. You need to add the game folder to the trusted zone of your antivirus. Before performing this procedure, you must first do a full scan of your computer for viruses.
4.Add the range of our servers to the list of trusted addresses (optional).
Servers RU1–RU9:
The range of addresses required for the Launcher and the portal to work:
Ranges of server addresses required for voice communications:
5. You also need to reset the network stack of the system to command line Windows using the command " netsh winsock reset».
- For Windows XP: press Start > Run. In the window that opens, enter cmd.exe and press OK.
- For Windows Vista and Windows 7: press Start, in the "Start search" field, enter cmd, right-click on the cmd.exe file and select "Run as administrator".
- For Windows 8: On the desktop, press the keyboard shortcut Win+X. Select "Command Prompt (Admin)" from the menu that opens.
There are quite a few requests in the comments asking for help to solve the problem when there is no connection to the World of Tanks update server. There are three simple solutions which we will tell you below.
Problem connecting to the update server
When it is impossible to connect to the WOT update server, use one of the following instructions to solve the problem, download updates and enter the game:
Solution
Option 1
To solve the problem when it fails, you need to do the following. First of all, make sure your Internet is working properly. Then restart your computer and turn off internet if you are getting it through a router or router. That is, your network card or modem must be disconnected from electricity: the network card will turn itself off when the PC is restarted, and the modem, router, router or other connector is usually turned off manually. In this way, we are guaranteed to reset your current Internet connection and connect again. After reconnecting to the network, the blocking of access to WOT updates disappears. This option usually fixes the connection issue for users with a dynamic IP address.
If you are unable to connect to the update server after following this procedure, try the other options below.
Option 2
Having tried the first option above, we do the following. You need to go to your network connection settings and change the available DNS server to a new one. On Windows 10, this is done as follows:
- Go to Settings (Start - Settings)
- Network and Internet
- ethernet
- We call the properties of the adapter through which you access the Internet. If wired, then "Ethernet", otherwise "Wireless". This is done by right clicking on the icon.
- We open the properties of the protocol "IP version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" also through the right mouse button.
- Put a dot in front of "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter if not, otherwise replace the DNS server with 8.8.8.8. This is the Google DNS server. The second is the Yandex DNS server 77.88.8.8.
- Save by pressing the "OK" button.
For convenience, we have made a graphic instruction for you:
After completing the steps above, connecting to the server Updates World of Tanks will take place through a generally accepted open policy of access to resources on the Internet provided by leading search engines. This will nullify the problem with the unavailability of World of Tanks updates.
Option 3
If another solution to the problem with WOT. Most often, after the release of the next patch, servers provide access for downloading to those players who are the first to try to download from them and to those who have a high-quality Internet connection. If you don't fall into the first category and don't have a high-quality network connection by today's standards, you just have to wait. Yes, you got it right. Once again: wait until the bulk of the players download the new patch, after which access to the update servers will be open to you. This filtering was done due to the fact that the number of simultaneous connections to the World of Tanks data center during the release of updates goes off scale. Under these conditions, priority is given to players with fast internet who will not queue for a long time to download the patch. Be patient and if everything is really all right with your Internet, already after 6-12 hours from the moment the update was released, access to WOT servers will be open to you.
If a message appears on the screen while working with the program "Unable to connect to server.", do the following:
1. Check if your computer is infected with the Kido worm
Read the article about infection symptoms and treatments How to deal with the Net-Worm.Win32.Kido network worm .
2. Check Internet access
Check if available Internet by opening in browser Internet Explorer website Kaspersky Labs. If access to Internet no, contact your ISP for more information. Try to activate the application again after restoring access to Internet.
3. Set up Firewall properly
If your computer has Firewall, then make sure that in the settings Firewall there is an allow rule for the process avp.exe.
Firewall (firewall, firewall) designed to ensure the security of your work in local networks and the Internet. Firewall is a software package that checks data transmitted over the Internet or a local network, and, depending on the parameters Firewall(direction, transfer protocol, destination addresses and ports), blocks or allows this network activity.
4. Check the system date on the computer
You can learn how to check if the system date is set correctly on your computer in the KB3508 article.
5. Retry activation in one hour
6. Contact Kaspersky Lab Technical Support
""- an error that can appear quite suddenly for any tanker in World of Tanks. Let's look at the possible causes of this incident.
This error can be caused due to the following reasons:
- Technical work is underway on the game server. Developers very often warn about them on the official website. Technical work may be related to the release of a new patch or the installation of intermediate fixes, as well as simply restarting the game server may temporarily cause a network connection error.
- Your internet connection is not enough to play. Check the minimum system requirements games.
- You have an antivirus or firewall installed that can block the game from accessing the Internet. Remove file restrictions WorldOfTanks.exe, If there are any.
During update 1.7.1.0, many players received this error when downloading the patch through the launcher:
Warning.
Incorrect data received from the update service.
Detailed information is available in the log file.
This most likely means that the update server is unavailable. This happens when the next update comes out.
How to fix?
Close the game client, delete the Wargaming.net folder located at:
Windows Vista 7: C:\Users\UserName\AppData (hidden folder)\Local\Temp\wargaming.net\
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\temp\wargaming.net\
(where UserName is the name of your Windows account).
You can also get into the folder without changing the visibility settings. Enter "%appdata%" (without quotes) in the explorer address bar or use the Total Commander program.
Empty the Updates folder located in the root directory of the game (eg C:\Games\World_of_Tanks\Updates). At the time of the update, we recommend temporarily disabling anti-virus software.
Launch launcher. In the launcher settings, specify port 6881 for incoming connections, activate the "Allow torrent" setting and click OK. Restart launcher, wait automatic update client. Turn on your antivirus software. Try adding the game folder to the trusted zone of your antivirus.
If the error persists
Make sure you are connected to the update server:
Click Start(if you are using Windows 8, press the keyboard shortcut Win+R), in the "Start Search" field, type "cmd" (without quotes), right-click on the cmd.exe file and select "Run as administrator".
- Enter the command "ping update.worldoftanks.ru" in the command line and press the key Enter.
Make sure the number of packets sent matches the number received. - Enter the command "ipconfig /flushdns" (without quotes) at the command prompt and press the key Enter.
- Enter the command "ipconfig /registerdns" (without quotes) at the command prompt and press the key Enter.
After these steps, the update will most likely start.
The error is that Cannot establish a network connection once brought a big surprise to tankers when unscheduled technical work began on the servers related to preparations for update 0.7.0. This came as a big surprise to the players. Initially, this article was intended to cover the chronicle of those events, so the original text of the outdated news is presented below.
-- The text below is not relevant, pay attention to the date. --
old information
Today November 5, 2011 at about 15:00 Moscow time, the World of Tanks server lay down and did not get up. Everything would be fine, but no preliminary messages from the developers were published, which led to massive dissatisfaction with the players, who poured into the official forum in a huge crowd.
When I discovered that the game was not connecting to the server, there was already a heated discussion on the forum about this news. At peak moments, up to 1600 users read the topic, which led to failures in the forum.
We will keep you updated.
Update: at 15.48 I was already able to log into the server.
It is not so much the fact that the game server did not work that is surprising - it is within the normal range that the equipment breaks down, the hardware does not last forever, especially since the total power over the server is concentrated in the hands of the developers. It is surprising that nowhere does a message slip through that they say "sorry, we are fixing it, we know about the problem, work is underway."
It would be high time to issue a special column of emergency messages in order to avoid such an aggressive reaction from the World of Tanks gaming community. And the players are primarily frightened and annoyed by the unknown and unforeseen.
Update 08 December 2011
Today the World of Tanks server was disabled due to the installation of update 0.7.0 on the server. At 22:34 Moscow time, technical work is still ongoing, but earlier there was a message that the server would not be available until 22:00. Well, it's not an easy task to patch such a game. We wish the developers good luck!
Stable and fast access the world wide web is not yet a guarantee that you will be able to freely visit your favorite Internet resources. The error “Unable to connect to the site” often appears at the most unexpected moment.
The essence of the error is that websites stop opening on a computer or on all devices connected to one router, although there is an Internet connection. Let's talk about what could be its cause, how to identify the culprit and what measures to take to eliminate it.
No access to all sites
Website opening errors occur for a variety of reasons. The first group includes situations when the browser cannot access any Internet resource. This group is more common and its causes are more varied than in cases where only certain sites do not open.
Reasons for lack of access
- Failure of the network settings of the PC or router (may be introduced by the user or software, including malicious ones).
- Damage to the components of the OS network subsystem (it can be the result of user actions, operating system failure, infection and deletion of files of this structure by malware, blocking or deletion by antivirus).
- Incorrect firewall (firewall) or parental control settings (the browser is denied access to the Internet).
- Very slow or interrupted Internet connection.
- Connecting to the network through malfunctioning or slow proxy servers and VPNs.
- Incorrect settings or browser failure (including the installation of "crooked" extensions and user scripts).
- The activity of malicious programs (in addition to changing network settings and components, a virus can consequentially block the loading of sites).
- Problems on the side of the Internet provider.
How to find the culprit
An analysis of the events that preceded it will help you to think about the culprit of the failure.
If before the error occurred:
- any actions with the router: replacement, repair, firmware update, settings change, etc.;
- changing the network connection settings on the PC (for example, new DNS addresses were registered);
- installation or removal of programs that interact with network structures (Internet accelerators, traffic analyzers, 3G / 4G modem applications, etc.);
- manual or program cleaning of the system from debris, optimization, removal of "viruses" using anti-virus utilities, registry edits, group policy changes,
the most likely cause is incorrect network settings or damage to network components.
If before the failure occurred:
- installing or removing a firewall or anti-virus program with a built-in firewall;
- changing firewall (firewall) settings;
- installing or reconfiguring parental controls;
- the appearance of messages about the insecurity of a network connection with a proposal to strengthen protection,
the culprit is most likely an antivirus, firewall (firewall) or parental control tool.
If the event is accompanied by:
- spontaneous pop-up ads;
- violation of system functions;
- errors when performing normal operations (opening a folder, copying, etc.), which were not there before;
- anti-virus program alerts;
- loss of access to electronic wallets and online accounts that you used on this PC;
- other unusual phenomena that have not been observed before,
The reason is most likely a viral infection.
What to do next
The troubleshooting and troubleshooting steps below cover all of the causes listed. If you have an idea about the specific culprit of the problem, you can only perform the steps that are appropriate for your case. If the previous one didn't work, move on to the next one.
- Reboot your router. Check Internet connection settings, black and white lists of sites, DNS addresses. If the specified DNS is unknown to you, write down the addresses of your provider or or Google instead.
- Check the network connection settings on the PC. Must be specified as the default gateway. DNS server addresses (if not assigned automatically) must match the default gateway IP, belong to your ISP, or be public.
- If you use a VPN or proxy to access the global network, disable them.
- Make sure the Internet connection is stable and the connection speed is sufficient, using, for example, this service.
- Do a network settings reset. To do this, run system application « Options", go to " Network and Internet” and in the right side of the window, click the button “ Network reset". Next click " Reset Now". This action will reinstall the Ethernet and WLAN adapters and restore all network components to their original settings. After the reset operation is completed, the computer will restart.
- Temporarily disable your firewall or firewall, and parental controls, if using. To disable the Windows 10 firewall, run " Options", open " Update and Security» – « Windows Security". Right click " Firewall and network protection". In the Defender Security Center window that opens next, click on the connection marked as " Active". Next, move the firewall slider to the " Switched off».
- Check if the problem occurs in other browsers. If it is present in only one, most likely the reason lies within the browser itself. Check its Internet connection settings (if you do not use a proxy and VPN, but they are registered in your browser settings, delete these entries), disable extensions and user scripts, . If all else fails, export your bookmarks and reinstall your browser.
- To exclude the active influence of running programs (including malicious ones), with network support. If access to sites is restored, the reason is in the programs. It remains to find which one. However, if changes made to the system cause a failure, this will not help to identify and remove them, since they remain effective even without the presence of the programs that created them. To deal with the changes, use the following method.
- on the day when sites opened without errors.
- Scan the disks with an antivirus.
- If the problem occurs on all devices connected to your ISP's network, and vice versa, does not occur when connected to another, call the provider's support service and follow the recommendations of the consultants.
No access to individual sites
The reasons
The lack of access to some sites can be caused by the bulk of the reasons listed above. But there is one caveat here - you can make an assumption about the culprit of the failure on the subject of inaccessible content.
For example:
- There is no access to torrent trackers and other similar resources prohibited in your country. The reason is blocking by the provider or a higher controlling organization. According to the rules, instead of them, a stub page should open with the formidable inscription “ The site has been blocked due to...", but sometimes the error " Unable to connect to site". By the way, sometimes innocent resources, such as Google services, also fall under the distribution.
- Adult pages, VK and your favorite online game do not open. The probable cause is blocking by means of parental control, firewall or DNS with the content filtering function. Sometimes in such cases, more sophisticated methods are used - blocking through the Hosts file and so on, which I will discuss later.
- Social networks, mail and anti-virus resources, search engines do not open. This picture is typical for a viral infection.
What to do
In case of unavailability of individual sites, the same diagnostic methods and solutions are used that are used for problems with access to all. But with an amendment: - your allies, not enemies.
And separately about the blocking methods used by malicious programs. To unblock access to a website, removing the malware alone is often not enough: together with it, it is necessary to remove the changes that it has made to the system.
- Hosts File
Simply put, the file %windir%\System32\drivers\etc\Hosts is a local DNS service. It serves to tell the computer which IP addresses to look for specific sites whose names are listed in this file. If you write in Hosts that the ABC.com site is located at 127.0.0.1, then the computer will look for it not on the Internet, but on its disks. And since it doesn’t find it, it won’t be able to open it in the browser.
By the way, viruses sometimes hide from the user the entries they made in Hosts. About ways to hide.
Hosts is a text file with no extension. To remove a blocking entry, open it in notepad or a notepad-replacing program and simply delete unnecessary lines. If, after editing, the file is saved with the .txt extension, remove the extension.
There is a class of malware that can rewrite DNS addresses in the network settings of a PC and router. If you notice unfamiliar DNS on your devices, write the provider's or public addresses instead.
- Static routes
A static (permanent) route is a hard-coded path for web traffic to travel from one network host (for example, your computer) to another (website on the Internet). Accordingly, if the route is set incorrectly, the site will not open. The operation of this mechanism is described in more detail in the above.
To find out if your PC has persistent routes, run the instruction on the command line route print
To remove all routes, run another statement: route -f
- Scheduled tasks
An assigned task is a kind of instruction that operating system executes according to a schedule or when some event occurs (for example, after Windows boots). Such tasks can be created by both users (through the Task Scheduler) and programs installed on the PC.
Scheduled tasks are stored in folders %windir%\tasks and %windir%\system32\tasks in the form of text files: one task - one file. A file created by malware is usually easy to identify by a meaningless name made up of a string of numbers and letters, such as sgjed4jlui.job. In addition, the date of its creation, as a rule, coincides with the date of the problem with opening sites.
Before deleting suspicious tasks, it is advisable to create backup copies of them - in case of a possible error.
- Malicious proxies
Proxy servers are intermediate nodes that pass through the network traffic of a computer (router) before entering the World Wide Web and back. In addition to useful tasks, such as traffic protection or IP masking, they can be used by attackers to redirect the user of an infected machine to phishing web pages, as well as to block access to certain sites.
Proxy servers (if used on a PC) are registered in the system registry, namely in the sections HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings and HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
The parameter is called ProxyServer.
To remove a setting from the registry, right-click on it and select " Delete". The changes will take effect after you restart your computer.
