are excellent smartphones that have dominated the top rankings for a long time since their release.
We love these flagships for their gorgeous screens, great build quality and amazing cameras.
However, no smartphone is perfect, and samsung galaxy The S7 is no different. Common problems range from minor quirks to catastrophic hardware failures. You are not alone if you are facing any issues, many Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge owners have reported similar issues multiple times.
In this guide, we will take a look at the most common Samsung Galaxy S7 problems and what we can do to fix them.
Galaxy S7: Crooked or crackling sound
One of the most common Samsung problems Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge crackling or distorted sound. There can be several reasons for this, so you should carefully go through the list to make sure that you have found a solution to the problem.
If you're trying to play music from your Galaxy S7's speakers after getting your phone a little wet, chances are the speakers will need to dry first. Yes, the Galaxy S7 is waterproof, but wet speakers will distort the sound during playback.
Double check your speaker grilles after your phone is dry to make sure there isn't any debris that could be affecting the sound.
Last but not least, a software bug can cause the sound of your Samsung Galaxy S7 to be distorted.
Go to Settings - Sound and Vibration, then scroll down to the Sound Quality and Effects section. Here you can try toggling UHQ Upscaler to Off, this solution will help you to reset your audio settings.
From this menu, you can select "Adapte Sound", which offers you to set up a custom EQ for your headphones, providing better sounding audio.
MicroSD card pop-up notifications
One of the most annoying Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edgt glitches is the microSD card pop-up warning, and this notification appears again and again, whether you turn it off or remove the memory card, it doesn’t matter.
Some users experience this problem only after rebooting their smartphone, others see it more often. You can obviously just skip the notification each time, but that's not a very good solution in the long run.
The easiest solution to this problem is to perform a system update, which is the most likely to fix the error. Some users have reported fixing the problem with performing a smartphone software update.
If the problem is not solved by a software update, or new updates are not available, you can try formatting the memory card. Be sure to back up the contents of the card first, as formatting will erase all data on it.
In order to erase only the MicroSD card and nothing else, go to Settings - Device maintenance - Memory, then click on the three dots in the upper right corner, go to Memory settings - SD card - Format.
If the problem does not hide its ugly head, contact technical support Samsung, they may offer you the right to replace the device.
Galaxy S7 green screen of death
If your screen is glowing green, you are not alone. A small amount of Samsung phones Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are facing this issue. The screen just lights up and stays green.
The problem appears, as a rule (not without exceptions), when the Always-On Display feature is enabled. The green screen passes with switching to the lock screen. In some cases, the green screen appears on unlocked devices as well, in other cases the screen works fine after the device is unlocked.
If the screen switches to green color, the display is likely to be defective and must be replaced. Contact Samsung as soon as possible to begin the recovery process. Some users have found that hard resetting the phone by pressing and holding the power and volume down buttons can fix the green screen issue, but only temporarily.
Another solution you can try is to go to the AMOLED settings and try a different mode.
Go to Settings - Display - Screen Mode and select AMOLED Photo or Basic to see how it affects your problem. This solution also helps with green and purple stripes on the screen.
Galaxy S7 not responding with black screen
Some Samsung Galaxy S7 users have reported a "black screen of death" in which the smartphone continues to function but does not wake up, regardless of the buttons pressed. The music will continue to play, the indicator of incoming notifications will continue to flash, but there is no way to wake up the smartphone.
The temporary fix requires a hard reset, which is accomplished by holding the power button and the volume down button at the same time for 10 seconds. This combination will force the smartphone to reboot. If a hard reset doesn't work, you can try starting your Galaxy S7 in safe mode.
Here's how to get into Samsung Galaxy S7 Safe Mode:
Hold down the power button until the Samsung Galaxy logo appears;
Simultaneously release the power button and press (hold) the volume key down;
Keep the volume down key pressed until the device boots up completely. You will know that the smartphone has entered safe mode when you see "Safe Mode" in the lower left corner of the screen;
If your phone is no longer experiencing black screen issues again, it means that one of the apps you are downloading is causing the problem. Look back at recent changes to see if you've recently installed apps that could be causing the problem, then uninstall it. It is also worth checking for updated versions of installed applications, perhaps the error has been fixed by the developer.
As a last resort, you can try resetting your phone via the recovery menu. Please note that a factory reset will erase all information on your phone, so make sure you back up your photos, documents, and music before continuing.
Here's how to factory reset your Samsung Galaxy S7:
Turn off your phone;
Press and hold the Home keys and volume up, and then press and hold the Power button;
Release the power button when you see the Galaxy S7 logo;
After you see the Android logo, you can release all buttons. Your phone is in emergency recovery mode where you can select "Factory Reset" by using the volume up and down keys. When the Factory Reset section is highlighted, press the Power button to start the process.
Wifi keeps dropping out
This is a very problematic bug, but some users have recommended turning off Bluetooth in order to get a more stable Wi-Fi signal. This is not a perfect solution, but in order to fix this problem, you will have to contact Samsung for a software update. Be sure to check Settings - Software Update to see if there are updates available.
Also, you could try resetting your network settings. To do this, go to Settings - General Management - Reset - Reset network settings - Reset settings.
If this does not solve the problem, check if there is a firmware update for your router. There are various methods to update the firmware of the router, please refer to the user manual.
Camera glitches
The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are equipped with great cameras, but that doesn't mean anything if you can't get the camera up and running. Users have reported that the camera app crashes with a "Warning: Camera Failed" notification.
The easiest solution is to simply restart your smartphone, which may solve the problem. If the reboot did not get rid of the error, try clearing the cache of the camera app. You can do this by going to Settings - Applications - Application Manager, and there find the application "Camera" (Camera). Then click "Memory" and you will see options like "Wipe Data" or "Clear Cache". Select Clear Cache, then check if this solution solved the camera problem.
If the problem persists, there is another solution you can try. Some users reported that Smart Stay, Samsung function, which uses the front camera to see if you're looking at the screen, conflicts with the back camera. You can try turning off Smart Stay by going to Settings - Display and "Turn off Smart Stay".
Cracked camera glass?
This is one of the few major hardware issues we've seen in reports about the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Some users reported that the main camera glass was breaking for no apparent reason.
So far, we have not received a definitive answer from Samsung as to whether the broken glass of the main camera is a manufacturing defect. We recommend that users who have been affected by broken camera glass send their smartphones back so that the manufacturer can trace the cause of the problem and fix it.
This is a frustrating decision for owners of expensive smartphones, as they are forced to go without a phone for several days while they are analyzed and repaired. Unfortunately, there are not many users who can afford it.
Short battery life
While the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have larger batteries than their predecessors, some users complain about poor battery life. Luckily, Android offers a reliable battery management app that can help fix some issues.
The first thing you should do is go to Settings - Device Management - Battery. Here you can see a graph of battery consumption, as well as a list of applications and services that consume the most energy.
Your phone's screen should consume the most power during the day, so if you see an app that consumes more power than the screen, the app is malfunctioning. Try uninstalling the power hungry app to see if your phone's battery life improves.
The next thing you can do to maximize your battery life is to disable some of Samsung's default services like Always-On Display. Go to Settings - Display and disable Always-On Display.
Another solution you can try is to lower the screen brightness and set a smaller screen timeout. Go to Settings - Display and turn down the default brightness and reduce the screen timeout to 1 minute or 30 seconds.
Alarm clock doesn't ring
Some Galaxy S7 users are reporting that their alarms are not ringing. Most of these reports seem to come from users using the Alarm Clock app third party manufacturers. One reason for this could be Android's overly aggressive battery management called Doze.
In order to check if Doze is causing your problems, try using the application samsung watch default. If the built-in alarm clock is ringing, then your alarm clock app is most likely disabled by Android Doze.
To turn off the Doze function, go to Settings - Device maintenance - Battery - Battery usage - Advanced - Optimize battery usage, and there find the alarm clock application and set it to "Do not use battery optimization".
Power and volume buttons not working
This is a pretty serious issue, but a simple reboot will usually fix any issues with buttons not working. You can force your Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge to reboot by holding the Power and Home button. If this does not work, the problem becomes serious, your phone should be returned to Samsung.
Overheat
There can be several reasons for your Samsung Galaxy S7 to overheat. If your phone gets too hot to the touch while it's charging, the built-in fast charging technology may be the culprit.
And while fast charging is great for getting as much power as possible in a short period of time, it heats up the phone thoroughly. If you are not in a hurry to charge your smartphone before going to work, you can turn off fast charging by going to Settings - Device Maintenance - Battery - Advanced settings and "Turn off fast charging".
If your phone gets warm when you're not charging it, it could be an app that's feeding load in the background. You can see the presence of power-hungry apps in Settings - Device Maintenance - Battery.
You can also optimize all your apps to improve battery life by going to Settings - Device Maintenance - Battery - Battery Usage - Advanced - Optimize battery usage. Select "All Apps" and your smartphone should show the best battery life.
As a last resort, you can wipe the Galaxy S7 cache partition in recovery mode:
Turn off your smartphone;
Press and hold the Home and Volume Up buttons, and then press and hold the Power button;
Release the power button when you see the Galaxy S7 logo;
After you see the Android logo, you can release all buttons. Your phone is now in recovery mode where you can select "Wipe Cache Partition" using the volume up and down buttons. Once Wipe Cache Partition is highlighted, press the Power button to start the process.
Poor performance
If your Samsung Galaxy S7 is running slower than before, there are several ways to speed it up again. One of the main reasons for smartphone slowdown is Samsung's TouchWiz interface, which includes features like Upday/Flipboard Briefing. And while it's nice to have a live news feed on your home screen, it does require a significant amount of processing power.
To disable Flipboard Briefing, press and hold anywhere on the screen, or simply use the pinch gesture. Go to the Flipboard Briefing screen, which is usually on the far left. Cancel it by unchecking the box at the top and Flipboard will disappear from the home screen.
You can also try downloading a third party launcher that will give you more options than TouchWiz. We like Nova Launcher for its endless customization and high performance.
In order to make your smartphone even faster, you can speed up the animation system, or even disable it altogether. To do this, go to Settings - About device - Information about software, then click on the build number 7 times to unlock the developer menu.
Now in the Settings app, you'll find a new option at the bottom called Developer Settings. Scroll through the entire list to the Animation section, where you will see options for changing windows, transitions, and animation duration/weight. Set the options to "x5" or "Animation Off" to save a few precious milliseconds when navigating your phone.
We will cover the problem of screen sensitivity, problems with data transfer via USB and microSD card, as well as the reasons for the sudden shutdown of music applications.
But let's start with Bluetooth.
10. No bluetooth connection
First, make sure that the smartphone is visible via Bluetooth, and the paired device is working properly. If this is all right, then:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth and remove the paired device from the list. Then restart Bluetooth. We also recommend that you delete the profiles of all unused devices;
- Go to Settings > Applications > Application manager and find all applications for transferring files via Bluetooth. Stop them forcibly by clicking "Stop". Then select "Clear Cache";
- Check the smartphone software update;
- Clear the partition's cache. Call the debug menu by holding down the volume, power and home buttons. Then use the volume key to select the item wipe cache partition and press the power key.
11. The screen is too sensitive
A fairly rare problem for the Galaxy S7. But for Edge owners, this is a constant headache. Moreover, the “Gloves” mode in the settings is no longer there.
So try this:
- First, put a screen protector on the screen. Preferably not a film, but 2.5D plastic. It dampens sensitivity an order of magnitude better;
- Are you using a case? A number of models are very unsuccessful and provoke false positives of the touchscreen;
- Check for updates. Samsung reported that they figured out the problem back in May. But judging by the angry comments of some users, not to the end;
- Go to Settings > Language and input > Pointer speed and adjust the value. Then check the result. You can also use third party apps like SGS Touchscreen Booster;
- Dial *#2663# on your phone. This will take you to the Firmware version screen. Please note that this may not work on all carriers. If everything is fine with this, click TSP FW update (General). Wait for Update complete: PASS to appear at the bottom of the screen.
12. Transferring files to PC does not work
One of the innovations of Android Marshmallow was the mandatory choice of the connection mode to the PC via USB. Therefore, when connecting to a computer, make sure that you select "MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) Transfer" in the pop-up window. In other cases:
- If the window doesn't appear at all, expand the quick settings panel and then click on Connected for charging or USB charging. In the menu that appears, select the File transfer option or Transferring media files and Transferring images. The next time you connect, your computer may ask you to install new drivers, but they are more than standard. After that, you just have to select the desired item in the pop-up window of the smartphone;
- You can also do this through the developer menu. To open it, go to Settings > About device > Software info and click on Build number seven times. When you get to the right menu, find the USB configuration item and activate MTP (Media Transfer Protocol).
13. SD card popup notification
Many owners complain about the constantly appearing SD card window, offering to open or remove the memory module. Usually it comes out after a reboot, but some people see it much more often. The easiest way is to simply close the notification or disable the notifications feature.
But we need to treat the disease, not the symptom. So we do the following:
- Format the microSD card. This can be done in Settings > Storage > SD card > Format. Please note that all data will be deleted, so take care of a backup.
- You can try to replace the card. But this works mostly with fake microSDs;
- Update software. To do this, go to Settings > About device > Software update;
- Roll back your smartphone to factory settings. This option is located in Settings > Backup and reset > Factory data reset.
14. Music Apps Stop Suddenly
If you've noticed that music stops playing when you turn off your Galaxy S7's screen, you're not alone. And here's what you can do about it:
- The main reason is the power saving mode settings. To change them, go to Settings > Battery and make sure Power saving mode is disabled;
- In the same menu, select the App power saving section and click Details. Then add your players to the power saving mode exceptions.
That's all. We hope our tips have helped. And if not, then the service center, no one has canceled.
Samsung and carriers mobile communications have already colluded to pack a few distracting (and sometimes downright obnoxious) apps and services into the new phone. No worries! You can get rid of most of them in a few clicks. In the application manager, you can notice which applications can be uninstalled from Samsung galaxy s7, just drag them to the uninstall icon. Easily.
Remove junk you don't need.
For those apps that can't be uninstalled, you can do the same, but instead of uninstalling, toggle the icon at the top of the screen to Off. This disables the app so that it won't run in the background or show up in your apps folder. You can also save some time by going into the main app settings and scrolling through the full list of apps to find the ones you want to disable. Click on any of them and then click on the button Disable at the top of the screen. Now everything looks much neater there.
Fingerprint setup
Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have a fingerprint sensor built into the home button and you should take advantage of that. To add and manage your fingerprints, go to the "Lock screen and security" menu, open "Fingerprints". When adding a new fingerprint, make sure to hold your phone naturally, as you would when unlocking it, and rotate your finger to capture all of its parts. You can allow fingerprints to verify your identity when making purchases from Samsung Pay , Google Play and other services.
Setting up the application manager
Home screen from Samsungtouchwiz faster and a little more fancy this year, so much so that you actually want to use it. First, it is convenient for configuring the application manager. The default manager structure contains folders of certain applications on the first page, and then the rest in no particular order. It doesn't make the search much easier, though.
You can get rid of folders by clicking on the button Change, and then tap a folder. This will place the application in the main list. Also experience the ease of creating your own folders or modifying existing ones using the editing interface. You can organize applications however you like in edit mode, or just use A-Z button to sort everything alphabetically. New apps will always be added to the bottom of the app manager, which is pretty counterintuitive if you prefer alphabetical order. You can fix it by pressing the button again A-Z time from time.
Turning off the information screen
Flipboard screen Briefing from Samsung perhaps the worst part of the home interface touchwiz. It's slow and not particularly useful. In fact, some operators disable it by default. If your operator is not one of them, you should disable it yourself. It's easy - use a long touch or zoom out gesture on the home screen to enter edit mode. Scroll to the left to Briefing and uncheck the box next to it.

Move apps using the top bar
When home screens are busy and you want to move apps, you usually have to remove objects to free up space in order to resize widgets or change icons. AT Galaxy S7 not this way. There's a handy "Move Apps" icon at the very top of the screen when you're dragging an app.
Just place an app on it and you'll have a bar at the top of the screen where you can temporarily place icons while you reorganize your home screen. You can even scroll through it so you can load as many icons as you like.
Moving and resizing home screens
As you start adding apps and widgets to your home screen, you may want to change your mind about where components should be placed. It's not easy to start from scratch though. You can simply move one of the Home screen panels to a different location. Long press or pinch on the main screen to enter edit mode and then long press and drag to move the entire panel to a new location. If you need more space on your home screen, you can also do it from edit mode. Click "Screen Grid" at the bottom and change the grid size to 4x5 or 5x5.
Always on screen setting
Samsung takes advantage of the AMOLED display in GS7 with a new always-on display mode. Some carriers turn it off by default, but you should try this. You'll find the "always on screen" menu on the "Display" settings.
You can choose between a clock, a calendar, or just an image (not very useful) to display on the screen while the phone is in sleep mode. There are also several different styles for each setting.
Video review of the Samsung S7 Edge a year later:
Edge ribbon customization (Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge only)
Ribbon edge only available in phone version edge(and this is obvious) and only when it is in sleep mode. It is activated by swiping back and forth along the edge and the newsfeed and information appears. Swiping up and down moves between ribbon items. This can be helpful, but only if you take a few minutes to make sure you're shown the information you need.
You will find ribbon options edge in screen settings edge". A few categories, such as notifications and Yahoo news, will probably be the default, but you can also enable stock tickers, a pedometer, and even download some more feeds, such as news and an RSS reader from the Samsung app store. The order of the news feed can also be changed.
Side Edge Adjustment (S7 Edge only)
If you have purchased edge option Galaxy S7, then you got several features that are not available on the regular one. Probably the most useful of these will be the panel edge. It's a small tab on the right edge of the screen. Swipe on it and you'll be able to scroll through multiple screens of shortcuts and information, including a toolbar with a ruler. You can customize them by also clicking the settings icon in the bottom left corner.
The order of the panels can be rearranged and you can turn off the ones you don't need. Several panels (such as application shortcuts) have additional settings that you have access to. App Store Samsung offers several panels that can be downloaded in addition to the included set.

If the sidebar is distracting, you can only move it to another part of the screen, reduce its size, or increase its transparency. These are all options.
Changing the display color mode
AMOLED panels Samsung have extremely realistic colors, but, by default, they may appear too bright for some people. You can tweak this by going into the screen settings and changing the screen mode for different color gamuts and saturation. The phone supports adaptive, movie, photo and basic screen modes. If you want the most accurate colors, then use the photo and basic display modes. The photo mode uses the Adobe RGB gamut for a slightly brighter display than the basic one, which uses sRGB . Cinematic and adaptive modes push saturation slightly past "realistic" levels.
Use Pro Camera Mode
The default camera mode can produce many great shots with its competent auto mode, but you can achieve more by turning on the Pro mode. Just click the "Mode" button in the bottom left corner and select Pro. This will give you full control over focus, ISO, exposure and more. You can also set any of the settings to auto and change only some of them.
Also, don't forget to play around with RAW images. If this feature is enabled in the settings, you will get a JPEG and an uncompressed RAW file that you can process in Lightroom or Snapseed.
Take photos faster with Quick Launch Camera
Galaxy S7 has a great camera and you can turn it on super fast just by double tapping the home button. Be aware that some operators disable this by default. You can activate this feature in the camera settings under Quick Launch.
Stop stretching with one hand
Standard GS7 good enough for one-handed operation, but edge 5.5 inches, too big for that. Both devices have a useful mode function one hand, to keep elements within reach, but it can be disabled by default.
To activate One hand mode, refer to "Advanced Settings" in the main menu. One hand mode should be at the very top. Once this is done, you can triple-click the home button to launch One hand mode. The screen will shrink down and move to the right, but you can move it to the left with the arrow button. Also, if desired, you can set the standard keyboard to scroll more than one side in this menu. It should all be within reach of the thumb.
Selfie flash lighting
Some phones such as Moto X Pure Edition have front selfie flash but not Galaxy S7. Although it has an elegant alternative. When you turn on the front camera, pay attention to the flash option in the settings panel. If you turn it on, the screen will glow white just like when you take a photo. Because the Galaxy S7 has a very bright screen, this will be more than enough to compensate in a dark room.
Do more with smart screen capture
Galaxy S7 and S7 edge adopted a feature previously introduced in the Note 5 called Smart Capture. This is a set of features available after you take a screenshot. Three buttons appear at the bottom of the screen after taking a screenshot to provide quick access to more capture, crop and share.
The Capture More feature is great for scrolling through screenshots.
The last two probably speak for themselves, but what about Capture More? Press this and the screen will scroll down and capture more of the page you are on. This image will merge with the first screen into a larger image. You can do this as many times as you like.

Video: Reset Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
After going through the basic setup process new Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, there are a few more things you need to do to get the most out of your device.
In fact, here are nine settings you should change.
Change theme.
Samsung's Theme Store makes it extremely easy to change the overall look of the Galaxy S7. With just a few taps, you can view and apply themes created by Samsung designers and other Galaxy users.Themes can change everything from the font used on the device to the icons of all pre-installed apps.
There are two ways to get to the Samsung theme store. The fastest is to press and hold on the home screen and then select "Themes". Alternatively, you can open the Settings app and then go to Themes.
Access to Samsung Pay anywhere in the world.
Instead of trying to find the Samsung Pay app when it's checkout time, make sure "Simple Pay" is enabled in the Samsung Pay app.Open Samsung Pay, tap on "More > Settings > then Smart Pay". There you can enable (or disable) access to Samsung Pay from the lock screen, home screen, and even when the device screen is turned off.
With Smart Pay enabled, you can swipe up from the bottom of your device screen, tap and pay.
Disable news bulletin.
Samsung shows some of the news on the home screen, but this behavior is annoying.If you accidentally open the news summary panel, or just never use it, you can disable the summary by long-pressing on the home screen, then swipe right until the summary panel is out of sight, and toggle the switch that appears to Off.
Resize the app grid.
Want to see more or fewer apps on your smartphone's home screens? Press and hold on the home screen, then select "Screen Grid". You can then select one of the app icon grid options: 4x4, 4x5, or 5x5.Changes to the grid that you make on the home screen will affect the installed apps bar.
Disable the Always-On Display feature.
On the S7, the always-on-screen feature can be a little too distracting, and while it doesn't have a significant impact on battery life, it does have a small effect.To disable the new feature and return to checking your phone the old fashioned way, open the Settings app and then go to Display & Wallpaper > Always On Display and turn off the option. Or you can customize appearance and screen behavior when this option is enabled.
Make it easy to find settings.
Navigating the settings app looking for something you use often is a hassle. Luckily, Samsung lets you add quick settings to the top of the options screen with just a few taps.Open the Settings app, then select "Click here to change quick settings". You can select up to nine different combinations of settings, which are then placed at the top of the Settings app for easy access in the future.
App shortcuts on the lock screen.
You can place two app icons on the lock screen of your Galaxy device for quick access to any app. To change the app, or disable icons altogether, go to Settings > Lock & Security > App info & shortcuts > app shortcuts.Select the lock screen apps (left and right) you want to use, or turn off the shortcuts altogether.
Camera modes.
The Galaxy S7's camera is already great compared to its peers, but its appeal grows when you start adding different modes to the camera app. When using the modes, you can create animated GIFs, better shoot plates of food, or create a looping video without too much fuss.In the camera app, click on the "Mode" button, then on the "Download" link located at the top of the screen. A rather long list of modes ready to be installed will pop up.
Installation only takes a few seconds, after which you can experiment with different modes and improve your smartphone photography skills.
Removing unnecessary applications.
Samsung itself and sellers tend to install a lot of apps on Galaxy devices. Some of them you can remove, others you can't. On the S7, you can at least disable some of the apps and remove them from the home screen and app drawer.Open the installed applications panel, click on the "Edit" button, and start highlighting unwanted applications one by one by clicking on the "-" icon. If the app cannot be uninstalled, you will see a warning about it.
